Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of a new re-mastered CD & DVD collection by THE MOVE. “Magnetic Waves of Sound” features a newly re-mastered 21 track CD featuring all of the Move’s UK hit singles, along with key album tracks from their four studio albums. Of all of the groups to emerge in Britain in the latter half of the 1960s, THE MOVE was arguably one of the finest. A powerful act on stage, the group were blessed with one of the most imaginative songwriters of his generation in Roy Wood. Magnetic Waves of Sound is a fitting celebration of the legacy of The Move, includes a lavishly illustrated booklet, a new essay by Mark Paytress, and a poster.

2 reviewers on Amazon UK say the videos on the DVD have been stretched from 4:3 to widescreen. I pray this is not the case...
[ @#$%&* !! Dammit Jim, I'm only a country doctor !! ]

While 1 reviewer on SHTV says only 1 Top of the Pops clip looks weird, like it was stretched then cropped back to 4:3 ( what ??). Another Hoff-ite says the DVD is in the original 4:3 and looks fine.

Which izzit ?? Ugh...

Alright, guys, I whipped through the DVD just to test the picture quality and aspect ratio(s). The disc is NTSC/Region 0, perfect for North American equipment. Everything looks right, nothing is stretched out into fake widescreen. Picture quality is mostly better than what we've seen on YouTube. A handful of clips I hadn't seen before, but there are also some other Move promo films and TV appearances missing, which I guess Esoteric couldn't track down any low generation masters for. (Frankly, I wish they'd just pulled those from YouTube for completeness' sake.)

Anyway, if you're a fan of The Move, Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne, ELO, get this without hesitation.

All of us Roy Wood fans really need to join his facebook page. It's really fab, frequent postings, photos, videos.

He's out on another (Christmas?) tour, fans are posting videos, including from yesterday a version of Flowers In The Rain. He's still truckin' on...

Cor blimey, fish n chips...

On second thought, it appears not to be Roy's personal page, but a fan page. But at 2214 members, it's the most popular fan page on Roy. Still worth joining...

Only recently discovered these two 1-CD comps, which were released 15 and 12 years ago. Post-Move stuff from both bassist Ace Kefford, and lead vocalist Carl Wayne. Rave reviews on Amazons UK & US. Audio clips of the Ace CD are up on AllMusic, can’t find any audio clips of the Carl CD anywhere.

Rob Caiger put together the Ace comp, Roy Wood put together the Carl comp. Ace’s stuff is very interesting, at times he sounds like Steve Winwood, and others Robin Gibb. Carl has done some fruity stuff over the years, but his rock stuff is fab, I’m trusting the reviews here that the rock stuff overcomes the ballads.

Crazy prices on new copies if you can find them, lower prices on used but some still crazy. Can't find downloads anywhere, ugh. Just ordered them both, taking the Nestea plunge, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…

aka [2006] Carl Wayne with Roy Wood - Beyond The Move 1973-2003 (Castle UK)

Image

Carl Wayne’s departure from The Move in 1970 wasn’t the end of his musical relationship with Roy Wood. Their professional association continued over various projects during the 70’s and early 80’s whenever their busy schedules allowed. Wayne also worked extensively in theatre, television and film and was regarded for many years as one of the top vocalists in advertising while also appearing in the hit West End musical, Blood Brothers. In 2000 Wayne joined The Hollies as lead vocalist and in March 2003 he appeared on the 30th Anniversary Edition of the Electric Light Orchestra’s ground-breaking second album ELO2. Sadly, Wayne passed away in 2004 while working on this release leaving suggestions for Wood on the remastering of the tracks.
