A monumental 36-disc box set featuring every known recording from the mythic and controversial 1966 tour of the US, UK, Europe and Australia.

With the exception of the Manchester concert (May 17, 1966) released as Bob Dylan Live 1966 The Bootleg Series Vol. 4 in 1998, a pair of songs appearing on the 1985 Biograph compilation and a smattering of others, the overwhelming majority of tracks and performances on Bob Dylan: The 1966 Live Recordings are previously unreleased in any format--official or bootlegged--and are being made available now for the very first time.

All the songs on The 1966 Live Recordings were written by Bob Dylan (vocal, guitar, piano, harmonica) with the sole exception of "Baby, Let Me Follow You Down," a traditional song arranged by Bob Dylan for concert performance. Dylan is accompanied on these recordings by Robbie Robertson (guitar), Rick Danko (bass, backing vocals), Richard Manuel (piano), Garth Hudson (organ) and Mickey Jones (drums). (Sandy Konikoff plays drums on the White Plains and Pittsburgh shows only.)

Meticulously researched, curated and restored for this extraordinary collection, Bob Dylan: The 1966 Live Recordings is drawn from three main audio sources: soundboards, CBS Records mobile recordings and audience tapes.

The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert

Description
For decades, Bob Dylan's performance in Manchester was incorrectly labeled, The Royal Albert Hall Concert. Now, for the first time, the REAL Royal Albert Hall concert, originally recorded for a live album by CBS Records, is finally being released as a standalone 2-CD set, titled The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert. This show is also included in the 1966 Live Recordings box set.

Dylan is accompanied on these recordings by Robbie Robertson (guitar), Rick Danko (bass, backing vocals), Richard Manuel (piano), Garth Hudson (organ) and Mickey Jones (drums).

And thank goodness Amazon, with its always excellent customer service is selling this rather than Bobdylan.com whose customer service aspired to be good enough to be called really shitty with last year's box set.

Obviously, this is quite an embarassment of riches, and I'm grateful that this apparently won't be packaged and sold as a $600 item.

I'm still getting it but I must admit if they reissue the Floyd box for $200 I'll be pretty mad.

Bump: The big box remains on schedule for November 11th, but the 2CD Royal Albert Hall set has been pushed back to December 2nd.

I hate to be a naysayer, but if these are the same shows that were offered digitally as part of the last box I'll pass. I downloaded all of the shows and found only 2 or 3 to be worth listening to in terms of sound quality.

They're not. The bonus download with the Cutting Edge 18-CD only covered 1965.

Meanwhile, I've seen conflicting reports as to which of the real Albert Hall shows is being used for the 2-CD. Some say the 26th, some the 27th.

Has anyone poured over the tracklists? A spot check seems to indicate pretty much the same show in different order. Not too many deviations. Does that seem accurate? I love Dylan and Dylan live, and this a great period to document...I just may not go for the box...gnashing my teeth...I'd like something between the two releases...a la the Yes live release of a handful of shows from the tour.
