Quote: Meat Loaf Announces Fall Release for New Album, ‘Braver Than We Are’
Meat Loaf‘s reunion with Bat Out of Hell collaborator Jim Steinman is on target for a fall 2015 release date.
The new album, titled Braver Than We Are, has been in the works for some time, and was officially announced in 2014 with the news of Meat’s signing with 429 Records. At the time, plans called for the duo to wrap up recording in the summer of that year with an eye toward releasing the LP in early 2015, and the singer suggested it would serve as a career-capping statement, saying in a press release, “I can’t think of a better way to round out my music career than having another opportunity to work once again with songwriters I so admire.”
News of the new release date comes courtesy of Meat’s Facebook page, where he’s posted a graphic teaser that, according to Melodic Rock, will not be used for the album artwork. And while Steinman is the only producer listed in the picture, Meat’s also reportedly been working with Paul Crook, who’s been part of his band for over a decade and produced 2011′s Hell in a Handbasket LP.
Steinman hasn’t produced a Meat Loaf album since 1993′s Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, the belated sequel to 1977′s multi-platinum Bat Out of Hell. While details are scarce regarding the Braver Than We Are track listing, the title song has been around for awhile, first surfacing as part of the stage musical Dance of the Vampire.
Continuing that “rounding out” theme, Meat told Classic Hits and Oldies that his version of “Braver Than We Are” will see him reuniting with Ellen Foley, his duet partner on the Bat Out of Hell hit “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,” as well as Karla DeVito, who appeared in the “Paradise” video and toured with him. Steinman has reportedly contributed “four or five” songs to the album, which Meat would like “to be absolutely incredible.” http://www.ultimateclassicrock.com/meat ... han-we-are

Whatever happened to that Christmas CD that he said he finished many years ago? Completely fell off the radar.

Bump: A year late, but the new Meat Loaf album has finally appeared on the release calendar, and a pre-order link is now in the first post.

Super disappointing to find out that Steinman only contributed a few songs to this record (probably will be all recycled from previous Steinman work). I'll probably end up getting it but sure won't be expecting anything great.
Too bad the Meatloaf/Steinman catalog has been scattered across all three major labels over the course of the last 40 years. It would be great to have a box set of only and all Meatloaf sung Steinman songs.

I'm pretty excited that this will be all Steinman songs. Really looking forward to hearing this. As expected, most of what's here has been recycled from Steinman's past and old versions of many of these songs can be found in various forms on Youtube. That being said, I think only two of the songs have ever seen an official release.
1. Who Needs the Young Steinman demoed this song in the early 70s. It was part of the Dream Engine musical that he wrote in the late 60's.
2. Going All the Way Is Just the Start I have no knowledge of this one so it may be a newly written song for this album. The phrase was used as a caption in the video for "I'd Do Anything For Love" so Steinman probably wrote this as a follow up song.
3. Speaking in Tongues Performed by the Dream Engine band (not to be confused with the Dream Engine musical) that did some shows in 2006. I don't think the song has ever seen any type of official release.
4. Loving You's a Dirty Job Likely just "Loving You's a Dirty Job but Somebody's Got To Do It" with a shortened title. Originally releases on Bonnie Tyler's 1986 album "Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire."
5. Souvenirs Steinman demoed this song in the early 70's. Part of another one of his musicals, More Than You Deserve.
6. Only When I Feel Another one of the songs performed by the Dream Engine band in 2006. Title back then was "(It Hurts) Only When I Feel."
7. More The Sisters of Mercy song. Released on their 1990 album Vision Thing.
8. Godz From Steinman's Rhinegold musical that debuted in the early 70's.
9. Skull of Your Country Not sure what this one is? The phrase was used in a song that Steinman wrote for the Dream Engine musical in the late 60's titled "Come In the Night." The first line of that song was, "How do you buy the skull of your country?" So it's likely this song will be "Come In the Night" with a new name or a reworked version of that song.
10. Train of Love Steinman demoed this song in the early 70's.
Always a chance that some of these are brand new songs that Steinman stole old titles for but I doubt it.

After listening to this new release, it is safe to say his voice is not far from where Bob Dylan's has gone. Rough and monotone. Too bad, the music is really decent but the vocals are a distraction.

I cancelled my Amazon pre-order. I'd rather have bonus tracks than a DVD.

I'd stick with the Amazon version/DVD. I need another version of "For What It's Worth" as much as I need another hole in my head. "Prize Fight Lover" is an older recycled bonus track from the last album and is not a Steinman composition. Another version of "I Would Do Anything For Love" doesn't really interest me at all. Most of the time I don't find much value in these types of "making of" DVDs...generally one watch and then never view it again...but those are some pretty uninteresting looking bonus tracks.

Renny,
Got the disc at Target this morning (on sale for $11.99), but there were no credits for the bonus tracks in the booklet. Will try to report back tonight.

Just finished listening and sadly Meat Loaf does not sing anymore. GODZ sounds like Great Balls of Bolero(I might have the wrong title for this), the song that opened shows back in the 70's. The songs are not bad, but Meat not singing them way we're used to kind of hurts the album in a big way.
