The current UM cd is a 2 disc release with much dialogue from the movie covering much (2/3) of disc 2. Plus a throw-away tune from 78. The original Uncle Meat was a 3 lp set No Commercial Potential. I hope this set is without the dialogue with the original 3 pl material plus stuff from that time period.
Chicago 78 - most of the live concert releases are not the same shows as the traded shows in circulation -
The only 78 Chicago show out there currently is :
1978 09 29 - Uptown Theatre, Chicago, IL Early show 100 min, Aud, B/B- 65 min, Aud, B+
The shorter version doesn't have The Deathless Horsie, and cuts in Flakes. The longer one is missing much of Pound For A Brown.
The Deathless Horsie, Dancin' Fool, Easy Meat, Honey Don't You Want A Man Like Me?, Keep It Greasey, Village Of The Sun, The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing, City Of Tiny Lights, A Pound For A Brown, Bobby Brown, Conehead, I Have Been In You, Flakes, Magic Fingers, Yellow Snow Suite, Dinah-Moe Humm, Camarillo Brillo, Muffin Man
Could be show #2?
The next recorded/traded show is 10/04/78 so it could be 9/30/78 thru 10/03/78 ? if they played those night
I hope this doesn't preclude the 10/31/78 4 hour New York show which was the longest FZ show ever.
Little Dots is from the 72 Petite Wazoo tour - my guess is the Washington Show(s) - I am hoping for the Waterbury show but whichever - in retrospec - one of my favorite FZ tours ever.

Ike was still in the band at this time right? I know he was absent at the SNL date a few weeks later. Why did he leave the tour?

Chicago's definitely on the list! Thanks!
FZ's getting to be almost as hard to keep up with as King Crimson (who I love, but have given up on trying to be anything near complete on the various official boots).

From the Amazon page:
"Uncle Meat gets the deluxe treatment in this three CD Project/Object Audio Documentary. Included is the original 1969 vinyl mix (restored, remastered and available digitally for the first time), an original sequence that includes unique source material and bonus vault tracks mostly compiled from the recording sessions at Apostolic Studios in NYC between 1967 and 1968."

Three great FZ titles all released on the same day that are hard to top.
First Chicago 78, one complete concert with such members as Ike Willis (his first FZ tour of duty) Ed Mann Denny Walley,. Two discs. The first one begins with the almost impossible to play Twentyone. You get all the "hits" and the seldom played Sy Borg. It is disc 2 where the music takes off, Little House, Yo Mama, Yellow Snow, Strictly Genteel and Black Napkins. The band was smoking on this night and Zappas solos are among his best.
Next is the Uncle Meat release. First the original vinyl mix never available on cd, next is one of the original sequences of the LP with some different tunes. Lastly about a half hour of alternate mixes. This is one of his 10 best original releases.
Finally Little Dots the second release from the Petite Wazoo that was assembled by FZ and shelved. In retrospect one of my three favorite Zappa essemblies. It starts with the original version of Cosmic Debris, then another nearly impossible tune to play Little Dots, Jim Gordon shines on drums and later Tony Duran on slide and Frank on lead. Next is the complete Rollo with vocals. Followed by KC Shuffle and the climax Columbia SC. It is a 23 minute song made up on the spot. Literally five minutes before show time both Jim Gordon and one of the horn players were busted and taken to jail. Zappa drafted the drummer from Tim Buckleys opening band and play a complete show of mostly improv, solos, etc, this last song is one of the mist amazing things I have ever heard, literally starting from nothing.
I wish they could release the whole show. Heck I'd love a box set of the whole Petite Wazoo tour.

I only picked up the Chicago show, which is outstanding. I'm intrigued, particularly Little Dots.

Just got in the '78 show. Always one of my favorite FZ ensembles. I can do without the "satire" tunes from this tour, but this group was incredible at extended improv, and of course FZ's playing was always great. They really need to put out a full release of "The Big One" from Halloween of that year! The "Halloween" release a few years back was just a taste of that four hour extravaganza. The Duke/Ponty band has always been my favorite FZ group.

The ZFT claims they do not have a complete copy of "the big one". Unsure if FZ took a razorblade to it or if they ran out of tape. There is a pretty good copy over at Zappateers. It is the one concert that once it's finally over even the listener is exhausted.
they are going to eventually release the Ritz show.
