Several of these have been on my "Still Not On CD" list for years, so this is wonderful news indeed! I'm in for the seven I don't have on CD: Beyond, Main Event Live, Warm, Summertime, The Brass Are Comin', You Smile-The Song Begins, and Coney Island. It won't be real until I'm listening to them!

I'm with Jim on this. Many titles are required, first up Vol II.
When my Dad bought his first car 8 track tape player for the car he allowed me to pick two tapes. His only demand was to buy two that Mommy would like. So I bought The Beach Boys Vol II Greatest Hits and Herb Albert and The Tijuana Brass Vol II (their second album).
By the way, Mom said I did good so she wasn't to mad with my Dad's for the non-essential 8 track player purchase.

Also, I can't wait for Human Nature, Herb's fourth new album in as many years. I'm actually looking forward to that one more than most (but not all) the reissues. At 81, he remains a viable artist who pushes forward.

Which albums are considered must owns?I know Whipped Cream & Other Delights and The Lonely Bull are two great ones. I'm thinking Rise is another with its great title track.

John, The three albums you mentioned are top-notch. For a fan who's not a die-hard, I'd also recommend Going Places! and What Now My Love for the TJB. As far as solo work goes, I'd say Beyond, Fandango (maybe Herb's best), and Midnight Sun (if you like an intimate late-night jazz session) would be good suggestions. His most recent work is excellent as well. Ole! Jim

Just finished listening to . HGN2001, I agree and I believe when the printed allotment sells out that would be it. So over the next 12 months I would like to get the whole series. Engineer Bernie Grundman, who was the mastering engineer on many of the Tijuana Brass and Alpert albums did a really good job on this one. Rick A.

I listened to Beyond and The Brass Are Comin' today, with five more CD's to go. Not only do they sound great, it just feels so wonderful to finally have them. "Beyond" is maybe the coolest song I've ever heard. I got the record back in 1980 and have been waiting for the CD since 1990. Patience paid off.
By the way, HGN2001 is doing a masterful job of examining the differences between the new releases and the Shout! Factory and original A&M releases over at the A&M Corner. The folks over there have a healthy obsession with the music of Herb Alpert, and you can just imagine how excited they are about this slate of releases. I know I am!

Thank you. I've been working my way slowly through them, giving each its time in the sun, so to speak. Once you get to S.R.O. up through THE BRASS ARE COMIN' there aren't too many noticeable differences from the Shout reissues. They all sound pretty darned good for their age.
I haven't gotten to the CD yet, but I know that on SUMMERTIME, the old Beach Boys' song "Darlin'' got a big extension on the CD (first time on CD!). The song always started and stopped, but this one nearly ends and then gets a whole 'nother section of the track. It's my belief that Herb and the band just did it one more time to evaluate which take was better. On the new CD, we get to hear both endings, nearly doubling the track time of the song.

Very cool. I've never heard Summertime (the album), though I've been a big TJB fan for over 35 years. It's still in the shrink-wrap until probably early next week. Tomorrow: Herb & Hugh's Main Event Live! This has been a very fun couple of weeks.
