Description
The Beatles: Live At The Hollywood Bowl is a new album that captures the joyous exuberance of the band’s three sold-out concerts at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl in 1964 and 1965. The CD will be packaged in a ‘digisleeve’ and accompanied by a 24 page booklet with new liner notes by David Fricke. The LP will be on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl and housed in a gatefold sleeve.

A companion to The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years, Academy Award-winner Ron Howard’s authorized and highly anticipated documentary feature film about the band’s early career.

While The Beatles: Live At The Hollywood Bowl references the long out of print 1977 album, The Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl, it is an entirely new release, directly sourced from the original three track tapes of the concerts. To preserve the excitement of the shows while unveiling the performances in today’s best available clarity and quality, GRAMMY Award winning producer Giles Martin and GRAMMY Award winning engineer Sam Okell have expertly remixed and mastered the recordings at Abbey Road Studios, including 13 featured on the album produced by Giles’ father, plus four additional, previously unreleased recordings from the momentous concerts.

Tracklist
1. Twist And Shout (August 30th, 1965)
2. She's A Woman (August 30th, 1965)
3. Dizzy Miss Lizzy (August 30th, 1965 / August 29th, 1965 - one edit)
4. Ticket To Ride (August 29th, 1965)
5. Can't Buy Me Love (August 30th, 1965)
6. Things We Said Today (August 23rd, 1964)
7. Roll Over Beethoven (August 23rd, 1964)
8. Boys (August 23rd, 1964)
9. A Hard Day's Night (August 30th, 1965)
10. Help! (August 29th, 1965)

12. She Loves You (August 23rd, 1964)
13. Long Tall Sally (August 23rd, 1964)
14. You Can't Do That (August 23rd, 1964) *
15. I Want To Hold Your Hand (August 23rd, 1964) *

Ron Howard would like you to meet The Beatles in a different way.

His documentary The Beatles: Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years will hit theaters on Sept. 16, it was announced on Monday. Hulu will begin streaming the movie the following day, which will be the first time the streaming service has debuted a feature film immediately after its theatrical release.

One might suppose this was the impetus for releasing the Hollywood Bowl now.

One supposes that they can do a better job of cleaning up the tapes, nearly 40 years later.

The price will probably come down, but what's wrong with making money?

We have a cover image in the first post now. This release is definitely a tie-in to the Ron Howard movie, although the cover art looks like it might be a placeholder and not the final cover.

I'm shocked--but delighted--that this is finally getting released. It would be wonderful if they released the '64 and '65 shows in their entirety, rather than the combined version that was originally released.

I hope the applause & screaming is lower in the mix then it was in the LP. I bought the original LP when it came out, & sold it to a used record store.

Beatles Announce New 'Live at the Hollywood Bowl' Album

A new, remastered live album containing the Beatles' performances at the Hollywood Bowl in 1964 and 1965 will be released this fall. The album, Live at the Hollywood Bowl, coincides with a new documentary by Ron Howard about the band's early career, dubbed Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years.

The album contains recordings from three different concerts, which took place on August 23rd, 1964 and August 29th and 30th, 1965, and the repertoire covers many of their early hits, including "Twist and Shout," "Ticket to Ride" and "A Hard Days Night," among others.

Although the group put out the platinum-selling The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl in 1977, the new record contains a different track list with four previously unreleased songs. The recordings were sourced directly from the three-track tapes of the concerts and were remixed and mastered at Abbey Road by George Martin's son, Giles, and engineer Sam Okell.

"Technology has moved on since my father worked on the material all those years ago," Giles said in a statement. "Now there's improved clarity, and so the immediacy and visceral excitement can be heard like never before. ... What we hear now is the raw energy of four lads playing together to a crowd that loved them. This is the closest you can get to being at the Hollywood Bowl at the height of Beatlemania."

A CD and digital edition will come out on September 9th, while a vinyl LP is due out on November 18th. The album includes a 24-page booklet with liner notes by Rolling Stone's David Fricke.

The Howard doc will focus on the Beatles between 1962 and 1966 and has been produced with the cooperation of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison. The film will get a world premiere in London on September 15th. Hulu users in the U.S. will be able to stream it on September 17th.

I'm glad to have the four new songs, but it seems lazy to just tack them on at the end rather than trying to make them fit into the flow of a concert. I recognize that these are taken from 2 different shows from different years. Still, the original release did a good job of creating that flow. Despite that minor quibble, I can't wait.

Wow--I honestly thought the world would see a DVD/Blu-Ray release of "Let It Be" before this album was ever reissued.

I've never actually heard this album, although I somehow doubt it contains anything relevatory.

As always, the rare live Beatles material I'm most curious about is the full-legnth Budokan video--will it ever see official release outside Japan?

The Beatles just announced this though Twitter. Unfortunately, this is the CD cover.

I have CD of the album that I bought on eBay (It's probably a needle drop copy) that has the real cover. I'll definitely be swapping the covers out!

That's too bad. Won't stop me from buying it, but I think they could have done better.

While I'm here -- John H brought us the release details upthread, linking to a blog that had copied an article from Rolling Stone (which in turn was mainly the press release from Apple). So I've brought the original RS article directly into John's post, and also copied the tracklist into the first post of our thread (with a clarification about the last track).
