Deadpool 2 set to begin filming in early 2017

Deadpool 2 is set to being filming early next year, with the film's producer, Simon Kinberg, revealing more details about the superhero sequel.

The first film became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time after its release in February. Ryan Reynolds played the Marvel superhero in a film filled with bad language, graphic violence and nudity required to take it past the adult only certification.

Deadpool saw Reynolds flanked by a supporting cast that includes Haywire's Gina Carano, former Homeland actress Morena Baccarin, Game Of Thrones veteran Ed Skrein and Silicon Valley star TJ Miller.

Speaking to Collider ahead of the Saturn Awards in California producer Simon Kinberg said: "The guys, [screenwriters Paul] Wernick and Rhett [Reese], are working on the script, and we hope to have the script very soon.

He continued, "we hope to shoot the movie some time at the beginning of next year." Heroic Hollywood reports that that Ryan Reynolds has completed a deal for its follow-up, with filming allegedly starting later this year for a potential 2018 release. This, however, has not been confirmed through official channels.

Ryan Reynolds Shares Fan-Made 'Deadpool 2' Poster That May Hint at Possible Release Date

Click for full size

Maybe Ryan Reynolds is dropping a hint to Deadpool fans about the possible release date for the follow-up to his blockbuster, raunchy, anti-superhero flick, or maybe he just likes showcasing fan art.

On Wednesday, Reynolds shared on his Instagram and Facebook pages -- on which he has millions of followers -- some fan art of a faux Deadpool 2 movie poster.

The only text he included with the photo -- a defaced bathroom sign altered to include mutants -- was "Ahhhhh, @mutant101 (fan who made the poster). Isn't this a felony?" The image appears to be a tongue-in-cheek response to the anti-transgender laws which have been recently passed in some states.

At the bottom of the faux poster is a 2018 release date for the sequel.

Deadpool was a critical and commercial hit when it was released just before Valentine's Day, going on to become one of the highest-grossing R-rated films ever.

And a 2018 release date seems to make sense timing-wise, with producer Simon Kinberg saying in June the production hoped to start shooting Deadpool 2 at the beginning of next year.

Producer Says Deadpool 2 Will Take Aim at Superhero Sequels

If there’s one thing we’ve gotten a lot of over the past few years, it’s superhero sequels.

We’re getting another Guardians of the Galaxy and a third Thor flick. Spider-Man is again being rebooted after having two previous series. Plus, DC’s confirmed a release date for the second Justice League movie before the first one’s even come out.

Fortunately, there’s one superhero sequel that’s already in on the joke: Deadpool 2.

In an interview with Slashfilm, producer Simon Kinberg said Deadpool 2 is going to take aim at the overabundance of superhero sequels. He said it’s just one of the many things Deadpool will target in his typical “break the fourth wall” style.

“I think Deadpool 2 will comment on anything that’s happening in movies today, especially in superhero movies,” Kinberg said. “The sort of glut or saturation of these movies and the proliferation of sequels is definitely something we’ll play around with.”

It seems perfect that the sequel to one of the most hilariously unique superhero films of the past decade would proudly make fun of its own premise. And it’s about time someone took a stab at these things. It’s no secret some people are already feeling superhero film fatigue. Both Marvel and DC have films scheduled through at least 2020, guaranteeing a plethora of heroes and baddies likely until the end of time.

Kinberg also addressed casting rumors surrounding Cable, after Deadpool confirmed he would be in the sequel. While many people think Stephen Lang will land the role, despite his scheduling conflict with the Avatar sequels, Kinberg said they haven’t cast the part yet.

“I’ve seen rumors from about everybody from Arnold Schwarzenegger to... I can’t even remember,” Kinberg said.

I hope they don't go overboard on the 4th wall breaking. It needs to be a flavor in the movie, but if they go full-on parody (like "Blazing Saddles" did with the western), it's going to be overpowering.

Stephen Lang as Cable? Crazy.

What's next, Mister Sinister played by an actor named Doug Ramsey? IS THAT THE THING THAT WILL BE NEXT

Two stars linked to 'Deadpool 2' film roles

Two stars have been linked to roles in the upcoming Deadpool sequel.

The first film became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time after its release in February. Ryan Reynolds played the Marvel superhero, with the filming of a follow-up expected to begin in early 2017.

Speaking on Meet the Movies, Mashable film critic Jeff Sneider claimed that Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler had been linked to the role of Cable, Deadpool's partner-in-crime who was alluded to in a post-credits scene in the first film.

Sneider also said that The Martian actress Mackenzie Davis has been connected to Domino, although nothing is "official" yet.

The first Deadpool movie saw Reynolds flanked by a supporting cast that included Haywire's Gina Carano, former Homeland actress Morena Baccarin, Game Of Thrones veteran Ed Skrein and Silicon Valley star TJ Miller.

The second film is expected for a potential 2018 release.

'Deadpool 2' Loses Director Tim Miller Over Creative Differences

Tim Miller, who directed Deadpool and had a hand in giving Fox its biggest hit of the year, will not direct Deadpool 2.

The director has parted ways with the studio over what insiders say are creative differences with Ryan Reynolds, the actor who plays the Marvel character.

Deadpool made $786 million worldwide when it opened on Valentine’s Day this year, launching a new franchise for the studio. The movie re-energized the career of Reynolds but it also began a second act for Miller, a visual effects specialist who founded Blur Studios and made a name for himself making video game trailers and opening credits.

By all accounts, success of the movie was truly shared by Reynolds, who helped define the voice to the characters, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and Miller. In fact, Miller is believed to be the one who leaked Deadpool test footage into the wilds of the Internet, with the ensuing enthusiastic reaction just what was needed to ensure that Fox, which was waffling whether or not to make the movie, gave it the green light.

Even before the movie’s opening, the gang was back together plotting the sequel. Deadpool 2 is in the casting stages and is in the middle of testing six actresses for the part of Domino, the project’s new female lead.

Sources say Reynolds and Miller had increasingly butted heads over certain creative issues. Reynolds was a producer on the original, along with Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner, but sources say his clout has increased exponentially on the sequel.

Fox says the parting of ways is amicable and is already jumping hand-in-hand with Miller into another project, Influx, the adaptation of a sci-fi themed novel by David Suarez.

Well let's hope the things I liked about Deadpool weren't due to Miller reigning in Reynolds. :)

I concur with Jeff.

Also hope that it's Stephen Lang who is cast as Cable instead of Liam Neeson. Not because I don't have any faith in Neeson's acting ability, but he's got a huge price tag and I don't think it would go down for Deadpool 2. If you have to pay for Neeson AND Reynolds, there's less flexibility for other things, and that could hurt the movie. (That being said, if my fears are groundless, Liam Neeson would be great!) I think Stephen Lang would make just as good of a Cable as Neeson.

Of course, the middle paragraph of this post is not nearly as important as the fact that Jeff...is right.

Petition Launched for Quentin Tarantino to Direct 'Deadpool 2'

Now this would be amazing.

A petition has been started lobbying Quentin Tarantino to direct Deadpool 2 — and so far, there are more than 1,700 signatures.

The move comes after Deadpool director Tim Miller exited the sequel following alleged creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds.

"If there was ever a chance to see Tarantino do a project almost guaranteed to make a billion dollars, this is it," writes Carl Champion Jr., who started the petition. "We got a great taste of what this could be like in Kill Bill, but imagine having a guy like Tarantino write dialogue for 'The Merc with the Mouth'! It would be so glorious. Join me!"

Now, it is highly unlikely that the Oscar-winning Tarantino would go behind the camera for the follow-up to the R-rated, anti-superhero smash success that was Deadpool. But hey, a fan can dream. It is also fun to imagine just how much fake blood they would need on the new film, which would no doubt be a record breaker.

Still, we wouldn't put it past Reynolds — who has become synonymous with the Deadpool character — to work a Tarantino hat tip into the sequel, just to let fans know he heard (because he is chill like that) and get them in a tizzy. Bottom line: fans are clamoring for this sequel.

I read Miller wanted to triple the budget on this next film.

I think Tarantino might decide to make a superhero film, but said superheroes would be characters HE created. I don't see QT directing a movie with someone else's characters.

But, let's be real...Quentin Tarantino won't be directing Deadpool 2.

Joe Cornish might be perfect....maybe a little too perfect.

'Deadpool' Composer Exits Franchise in Show of Solidarity for Director Tim Miller

Another member of the Deadpool team won't be back for the sequel.

Composer Tom Holkenborg, also known as Junkie XL, revealed in a Facebook post Thursday that he will not continue with the franchise following the departure of director Tim Miller. Miller exited the Fox superhero sequel last month over creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds.

Holkenborg says he doesn't feel right being involved with the second chapter now that Miller has left the franchise.

Here's the statement:

Quote:
It is with a heavy heart that I have decided not to score the upcoming Deadpool movie. I love this character and creating his and the movie's original score was a monumental chapter in my life, personally and professionally.

Since it was revealed that Deadpool's brilliant creative director Tim Miller will not be involved in the project anymore, i have undertaken some soul searching. Tim was the driving force behind Deadpool and me getting involved in this amazing project. Deadpool without Tim at the helm just does not sit right with me and that is why I have decided not to be involved in the second chapter.

It was a difficult decision, as I love the project so much and i know how eagerly the next installment will be anticipated, it's hard to walk away from something so unique, but it also has to feel right.

Holkenborg's Deadpool score was widely praised by fans, with it marking just one of several high-profile projects he's unveiled in the past 18 months. The Dutch producer recently scored Mad Max: Fury Road, Black Mass, Kill Your Friends, Point Break and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with Hans Zimmer.

Fans unhappy they won't be getting a superhero score from him can take comfort: Holkenborg is working on 2017's Justice League as well as The Dark Tower, the anticipated adaptation of the Stephen King opus.

No director or release date has been set for the Deadpool sequel, but last week John Wick filmmaker David Leitch met with Reynolds about the project. He is considered a frontrunner to land in the director's chair. As for Miller, he is developing a Sonic the Hedgehog movie at Sony.
