Description
The Early Years 1965 – 1972 is a comprehensive 27-disc box set that sees Pink Floyd delve into their vast music archive to produce a deluxe package that includes 7 individual book-style volumes, featuring much previously unreleased material. The Early Years box set contains unreleased tracks, BBC Radio Sessions, remixes, outtakes and alternative versions over an incredible 11 hours, 45 mins of audio (made up of 130+ tracks) and live and TV performance in over 14 hours of audio-visual material. The content includes over 20 unreleased songs, more than 7 hours of previously unreleased live audio and over 5 hours of rare concert footage, along with 5 meticulously produced 7" singles in replica sleeves, collectable memorabilia, feature films and new sound mixes. Previously unreleased tracks include 1967's Vegetable Man and In The Beechwoods, which have been mixed for the first time, specially for this release.

The Early Years 1965 – 1972 will give collectors the opportunity to hear the evolution of the band and witness their part in cultural revolutions from their earliest recordings and studio sessions to the years prior to the release of The Dark Side Of The Moon, one of the biggest selling albums of all time. From the single Arnold Layne to the 20-minute epic Echoes, fans will see the invention of psychedelic progressive rock via an insightful collection that explores the Pink Floyd story from the time Roger Waters, Richard Wright, Nick Mason and Syd Barrett met at London's Regent Street Polytechnic, through to Syd's departure and David Gilmour joining to form the iconic lineup.

40+ items of archival memorabilia including: posters, flyers, tour programs, tickets, press advertisements, & much more.

Bannings: If you're not nice
Let's make a thread for this now, based on some comments that Robin has been gleaning from around the Internet:

Quote:
Drummer Nick Mason has revealed the band is planning a similar project featuring their first two albums- The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and A Saucerful Of Secrets- which will feature never released tracks by reclusive founder member Barrett.

Quote:
Andy Jackson (Pink Floyd’s compiler) stated that he was working on an “Early Years” archival box for release in “Late 2016″. The group isn’t ignoring their archives. The urgency in releasing the 2-E.P. vinyl set of “The First Recordings” was to avoid having the recordings become public domain material in the UK & Europe. 2 of the 6 songs had been bootlegged (from an acetate in the 1990’s), and the group didn’t want to risk that someone might hold acetates of the remaining 4 songs.

Quote:
While reviewing first part of PF vinyl reissue, Uncut Magazine mentions the release of early rarities box set later this year. No further info is provided...

Ready? A 15-disc box set and a 1CD distillation just popped up on Amazon USA, now linked in the first post. There are virtually no other details yet, and I don't think the box's price is correct -- unless it's some kind of "Super Immersion Plus" edition -- so pre-order with caution until there's more information.

This is going to be entitled The Early Years 1965-1972. A lurking ICEr has provided us with a small image of the box set which was on Floyd's official website briefly and then pulled -- I've put that into the first post of our thread until a larger image becomes available.

15 discs? WOW!! This'll be great. I'm wondering if any of it will be BBC stuff although I'd rather have all of that as a separate release.

I can see $699 being the real price considering what Legacy charged for the 1965-66 Bob Dylan set.

Leave it to Pink Floyd to give you the option of one CD at a reasonable price or 15 CDs at a ridiculous price. Thanks but no thanks.

Any official word that the 15 disks are all compact discs? The photo Linda posted makes it looks like at least one 7" vinyl single is included. If 7" vinyl is included, it's almost a guarantee that they will put at least 5 7" singles in this box (Arnold Layne, See Emily Play, Apples and Oranges, It Would Be So Nice, Point Me At the Sky). I would think this set would have to be mostly vinyl to reach the ridiculous price tag.

The more I look at that picture, the more I'm convinced that it got pulled because it really isn't representative of what the box set will be. Even if the photos of the product are accurate, would this box set really cover 1965-1972? Through Obscured by Clouds? I guess it makes some sense as it covers the era before they went from big to huge with The Dark Side of the Moon.

If it really is 1965-1972 it will probably be really great or really poor. If the 7" vinyl is the recent record store day release repackaged here...then maybe this set will be 15 discs of rare material. That has the potential to be pretty awesome. But there is just as good a chance that they've rehashed the first seven albums (8 discs worth when counting Ummagumma as a double) and thrown in some vinyl and then somewhere in there stuck a live show and a couple unreleased studio cuts to try to soak the consumer out of $700 for the 2 disks they really want. Could go down as a huge disappointment for people who have been looking forward to a rare Barrett collection for what seems like forever. It will be interesting to see what the 1 CD version has versus the $700 set. Seems the way it works that the consumer will have to pay $700 to get the good stuff.

It's been pulled from Amazon too, now. I would expect it to reappear at the same URLs when Floyd and Sony are ready to announce this release for real. Stay tuned.

If there's enough Syd in this set, I'm in. But I'm heartbroken about having to remove the "The" from the group's name in our thread title.
