So let's see if we can keep this apolitical, since the band certainly won't.

A new summer super group is going out on the road, as B-Real from Cypress Hill and Chuck D of Public Enemy are hitting the road with Tom Morello, Tim Cummerford, and Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine. They originally got together one time to protest the Republican party - these guys? Protest? Nah, ever happen - but now they are doing a summer tour together, doing mainly Rage based sets. With De La Rocha off doing his own thing now, I expect this is as close as I'll get to being able to see Rage Against the Machine here in Toronto. Plus I'll get to see a couple of Public Enemy and Cypress Hill classics without having to pay for entire shows. So bonuses all around.

Although, I will be curious to see the stage banter, since the "Make America Rage (Again)" line may not exactly fit in Toronto. And I love how their tour kicks off at a location TBD in Cleveland on the same day as the Republican convention.

You're certainly more optimistic than I am! I considered posting something about this last week, but after thinking about the inclusion of Chuck D and B-Real, I figured the thread would most likely be 90% derogatory comments about rap.

Got my tickets for the September 10 show.

Yep. Optimistic. That's the word people use to describe me.

I'm not a huge rap fan, but the only rap I do like is those from people with something to say. Public Enemy and Cypress Hill, along with ICE-T were pretty much the top of the old rap shopping list for me. (NWA was just a touch too misogynistic) Add in the fact that De La Rocha wasn't your traditional singer anyway, and I think this has the potential to sound pretty good.

And in ICE's defense, I think the board's pretty good about not dismissing entire genres. I know rap isn't hugely followed here, but it's a lot more civil than some places that I've seen in the wastelands of the interwebz.

Chuck D is a force.

Politics aside, they are doing some interesting things with the back catalog material... check out this sorta mashup.

I was never a big Rage fan, but this clip has me really interested.
Doesn't hurt that I love Public Enemy.
