Description
Muldaur's three albums from 1976, 1978 and 1979, digitally remastered and slipcased with new notes. 'Sweet Harmony' and 'Southern Winds' both made the US Top 200. Apart from pursuing her long solo career, Muldaur worked with Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead during the late 1970s. This talented folk-blues singer still continues to successfully gig and record.

At one time I put out a lot of effort to get these as they are pretty rare on USA cd. And since they were still in the Warner Brothers era, even though I had never kept 2 of the 3 on vinyl, they had to be good, right? Imo, WRONG. Sweet Harmony is pretty good. I really don;t like the other 2.

Albums 2 & 3 imo are some of MM's worst work, wandering from lame pop to "Adult" early almost disco.

I don't know how hard Sweet Harmony is to find as a stand alone, but personally I'd go that way.

Sweet Harmony was one of Warner Bros.' early Germany-pressed CDs with poor (or no) remastering, now out of print and expensive. Wounded Bird put it out as a twofer with Open Your Eyes in 2006, also not remastered, also out of print and expensive. The new BGO set in the first post is actually the cheapest way to get Sweet Harmony and is likely to be the best sounding.

Not saying I necessarily agree, but "Warner Bros.' early Germany-pressed CDs" are known as "Targets" and Any major artist on Target (specially the ones with a Matte color label ) will sell for a fortune to collectors. No remastering,& no compression. Negatives are primitive A/D convertors & often multi generation safety masters.

I do NOT collect them, but many audiophiles do.

They often tend to have the opposite problem of today's cd's: Many sounded dull & muddy.

I never owned that Muldaur CD, but it was from 1996, which was after the "target" labels and instead had raised Warners logo embossed onto the jewel cases. I had a few CD from that time (the two Badfinger WB albums, the two Four Seasons WB albums, America, others) and they were mostly flat transfers with fairly dull sound. Not bad, but not great either.

If it's 1996. I would guess it was a real Germany cd, not a Target. IMO, many of the best sounding 44/16 cd's were made in the mid 90's. The a/d convertors weren't bad, & compression was more mildly used.

I know the series you're talking about; I have a few of them. I generally found them to sound identical to their USA counterparts. They were mostly imported in by my cutout/overstock wholesalers..

They also saying it was mastered in "High definition". I really resent that marketing tactic, because cd is limited to 16/44 (or as reconstructed 20/44 with HDCD). It may have been archived at a higher bit rate & down sampled for cd, but it is deceptive marketing.
