If you're not nice
Culture Factory's track record for remastering is not great, but their packaging is exquisite, and in this case definitely warranted its own separate thread. It looks beautiful. Fingers crossed for decent sound, too ...

I've been meaning to get this on CD for years to complete my solo Keith Moon collection. But I never gave any thought to the concept until now: "Documentary WWII footage to the accompaniment of Beatles songs" Somebody must have laid out some serious dough to just for the music in this thing--but why???
Anyway, I found the movie on Youtube, and I can tell you right now that I doubt I will ever watch all 82 minutes of this.

Banned??? Moi???
I saw the movie at college back in the late 70s when it was shown by one of the on-campus film groups. I remember not being impressed, but it was a looooong time ago.

Of course the key to movies like this and others of its ilk back in the college days (like Rocky Horror) is you needed to be chemically altered to really enjoy. I remember seeing Rocky pretty messed up and it remains one of my favorite moments at the movies ever. Oh what a night!
Pulled out my Hip-O-Select Limited Edition (yes it's says that on the outer box) and I've got to say they did a great job with the packaging and you get a patch with the WWII logo! The booklet is also awesome, very detailed.
So im not sure why one would need this new one unless you didn't buy it back then.

My LP copy that I still have was bought as a used record in its day probably in Flushing NY. I doubt, despite its very nice packaging, a very big seller. Still I do like some of the songs on there.

My copy has arrived. Nicely packaged with a mini LP replication of the album and a separate booklet for lyrics. The CDs are black to appear like records. I could not find any mastering information in the packaging whatsoever other than the original mastering credit for Alan Zentz. On the fake obi on the outside, it purports to be an "audiophile recording" "mastered in high definition 96kHz/24-bit". I never ordered the Hip-O Select version so no idea how it compares to that one.

The movie itself has been retitled The Beatles And World War II for the home video market, and is coming out as an import DVD (NTSC Region 0): viewtopic.php?f=42&t=97388

I bought this recently, mainly for Peter Gabriel's version of Strawberry Fields, which I had on a vinyl-sourced "gray-area" CD. Went through the entire album once, not much else that grabbed me; will give it another listen soon. Never saw the Hip-O version.

for any interested audiophiles: i think the hip-o-select version of this sounds terrific. and on an artistic level: although some of the renditions are questionable at best, at least (mostly) they're not carbon-copies like the Art of McCartney set.
oh... and the hip-o-select packaging is replete with some die-cut liner notes - very nice.
