If you're not nice
I've updated Adrian's link to the originating source -- here is the relevant excerpt for collectors:
Quote:
Capitol/UMe's Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Edition will be released in June, including a 4CD/Blu-ray Audio collectors edition presented in a hardbound book, featuring the remastered original album in stereo and mono, plus new hi res instrumental and 5.1 surround mixes, as well as session outtakes, alternate mixes, previously unreleased live recordings and hi res stereo and mono mixes; a 2CD and digital deluxe edition pairing the remastered album in stereo and mono with highlights from the collectors edition's additional tracks; a remastered, 180-gram LP editions of the album in mono and stereo with faithfully replicated original artwork.
Since this is so different from the cancelled standalone BDA which was solicited last year, I've split this off into a new thread. Awaiting pre-order links for the 50th Anniversary packages ....

Why am I even thinking about getting a ninth copy of this album? Don't you think those outtakes, etc. would be pretty much the same as the ones we got with The Pet Sounds Sessions in '96? I know I'm looking for justification to take a pass and I'm afraid I will not be successful.

The full tracklist for the big Collector's Edition is now in the first post, and they're treating the album with the care and respect it deserves. This edition appears to supersede everything that's been released in the past, including the Pet Sounds Sessions box and the multichannel DVD-A, plus the Brian vocal versions of tracks from the Good Vibrations box, extra surround mixes, live tracks ... excellent!
Also, here is the tracklist for the 2CD Deluxe Edition -- the second disc is made up of highlights from the Collector's Edition:
[CD1] Mono: 1. Wouldn't It Be Nice 2. You Still Believe In Me 3. That's Not Me 4. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) 5. I'm Waiting For The Day 6. Let's Go Away For Awhile 7. Sloop John B 8. God Only Knows 9. I Know There's An Answer 10. Here Today 11. I Just Wasn't Made For These Times 12. Pet Sounds 13. Caroline No Stereo: 14. Wouldn't It Be Nice 15. You Still Believe In Me 16. That's Not Me 17. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) 18. I'm Waiting For The Day 19. Let's Go Away For Awhile 20. Sloop John B 21. God Only Knows 22. I Know There's An Answer 23. Here Today 24. I Just Wasn't Made For These Times 25. Pet Sounds 26. Caroline No

This looks promising. I have the DVD-Audio and the original expanded CD but never got the sessions box set, so this might be the time to splurge. Release date is just 3 days after my 50th birthday, so I'll remember this when my wife asks if I have any gift ideas.

This:
"18. God Only Knows (Master Track Mix with A Cappella Tag)"
Huge oversight on the original 1997 box. I have a great fanmix someone made of this a year or two ago (at my request!), but glad they've made an official mix this time out. Don't think it'll get me to shell out for the big box, tho...

I played my DVD-A of Pet Sounds last night. That will do me. It's not the greatest 5.1 mix ever but is enjoyable enough.
It's more like a 4.1 mix. There's nearly no centre channel content at all. I hope that's addressed in this new surround mix (although I do like the DVD-A).

I only wish that someday that the whole concert from Carnegie Hall, would get a good upgrade and cleaning. It's like the " Holy Grail " amongst collectors.

Question; Will the Blu-Ray disc included on the upcoming "Pet Sounds" set be a New 5.1 Mix (and if so, who did the remix this time) or will it be the same mix they used previously on the DVD-A edition?

There is new 5.1 material included, so I hope (but am not certain) it's an indication that all the surround content is newly mixed, and that 5.1 really means all six channels will be filled this time.

Maybe the fifth channel will just be Mike Love's voice repeatedly saying, "what is this crap, Brian?" Could be a fun bonus feature on the blu-ray.
