Neil Young says that his latest archival album, "A Treasure," will be the first of many similar projects that will use unauthorized video material to enhance and flesh out the music that's on those releases.
"Anything that anybody puts out there is fair game for me," Young tells Billboard.com. "I can now use and I will continue to use on all my 'Archives' projects from now on any defining performance from any (source) synced up to the sound that I like."
Young says there are "several" other original, unreleased songs that do not appear on "A Treasure" for space reasons. He says some of those may show up on his third "Archives" release, while he hopes to release "Archives 2" in 2012.
"We're well into shooting the discs and getting the video ready for it and the interactivity and all of the content," Young notes. "There'll be different formats it'll come out in besides Blu-ray this time that are the same resolution but new formats people haven't seen before. There'll be some Internet-based distributions that'll be interesting."

I wonder if they'll remaster Time Fades Away for a proper CD release since the first four albums got that treatment at the same time the first Archives box came out.

Dear Linda,
You'll note that I haven't complained about the fact that Vols. 2 & 3 of "Archives" haven't been released. We should consider ourselves lucky that Neil finally capitulated and permitted Vol.1 to be released, after 10 years of hype and (at least) a half dozen cancelled release dates. Vols. 2 & 3 of "Archives" aren't something that I realistically expect, so there's no problem.

You know, I actually have faith in Neil this time. I saw him with Buffalo Springfield at Bonnaroo last weekend and he seemed different. He looked like he was having the time of his life up there with Stephen Stills & Richie Furay. I've never seen him act that happy on stage. And I don't think it was...um...artificial stimulation either. Maybe he is in a real positive place in his life right and is ready to move the product out to keep the fans happy. I hope so.

from the 4 waysite:
Neil Young says that his new box set Archives II should be finished by this summer. Young revealed the news during an interview with Rolling Stone, and even dropped a hint as to what will be included in the new set.
"It'll be finished this summer," Young began. "All of the music will be done."
"It goes just past [1979's] Rust Never Sleeps. It's full of albums that weren't there before - stuff I did that I never put out. The rest will come out pretty quickly. While we've been working on Volume II, we've been working on the other Volumes."
Young has previously confirmed that the unissued LPs Chrome Dreams and Homegrown, along with an alternate edition of the 1973 live album, Time Fades Away will also be included.
Volumes will come in five iterations with the last covering the 2000s.
