Starting the season on the bench for the first time is veteran drama Person of Interest, with comedies 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly and The Odd Couple as well as reality entry Undercover Boss also staffing the network's deep bench.
It's actually been a pretty good strategy for the networks. They have several proven performers ready to go if (really, when) the new crap crashes and burns. Mike & Molly came back early one year. And it helped 24 because they ran the whole series uninterrupted the last year or three (prior to the 12-hour run).
Still sucks having to wait. And Big Bang Theory fans will get treated worse - the show won't premier until after Thursday Night Football ends, so it'll start just in time for the holiday pre-emption season. As will the rest of the Thursday lineup.

They did that last year and we survived. I was wondering if the change would impact the ratings, but apparently, it didn't. Still, I wish that sports shows would appear on sports channels so that my TV schedule doesn't get jumbled.
'The Odd Couple' Recruits Teri Hatcher for Season 2
Teri Hatcher is returning to primetime.
The Desperate Housewives and Lois & Clark alum has booked a multiple-episode arc on CBS' The Odd Couple, the network announced Thursday.
Hatcher will play Charlotte, a "smart, successful single mother" who lives in Felix (Thomas Lennon) and Oscar's (Matthew Perry) building.
Oscar first interacts with Charlotte when he starts to date the nanny she's hired, but he quickly realizes that he's actually interested in his neighbor.
In addition, “The Odd Couple” expands to two nights a week with a new Monday broadcast beginning May 2 at 9:30, in addition to its regularly scheduled Thursday 8:30 airing.
