Robert Plant asked The Runaways' Lita Ford to replace John Paul Jones in Led Zeppelin
Robert Plant apparently offered to sack Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and replace him with The Runaways' Lita Ford.
The guitarist claims in her new memoir Living Like A Runaway that the frontman made the approach after a Runaways gig in Los Angeles in 1975.
"[He] asked me if I could play bass," Consequence Of Sound reports that she wrote. "For who?' I asked. 'Led Zep.' He might have been drinking or pulling my leg, but he seemed to be dead serious in the moment."
Ford never heard back from Plant, but Jones did leave Led Zeppelin around the same time.
The Runaways guitarist covered Led Zeppelin's 'Rock And Roll' for a tribute album released in 1997.
