Metallica fans will have the opportunity to see a lot of the band on TV next month when the band launches a weeklong performance residency on the Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson on CBS and the band also announced plans for reissues of their first two albums.
The band provided the following details about the late night TV plans, "We're excited to celebrate Craig Ferguson's final season on CBS as he has personally invited us to join him for an entire week of performances starting Monday, November 17th. We'll be playing every night that week and on the first night (Monday) we'll sit down with Craig to chat about all things 'Tallica.
"Met Club members should log in for information about how they can be a guest in the studio audience during the filming of the show in Los Angeles, CA. Tune in to the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on weeknights at 12:37 AM EST."
The band also announced on Wednesday that they are seeking audio recordings, videos, ticket stubs, snapshots and anything else from fans from their Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning eras for use in upcoming deluxe reissues of their first two studio albums.
Here is what the band had to say, "A little over two months ago we reached out to you for your assistance with the definitive Master of Puppets book that author Matt Taylor is assembling and you came through in a very big way - thank you!! We're back again hoping you can dip into your personal archives and find some gems from the Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning eras as we prep deluxe remastered versions of those two albums coming in 2015.
"We want it all! Did you manage to sneak a video camera into a show long before they fit in your pocket? Maybe your old instamatic camera for some snap shots? A cassette Walkman with a microphone? We're looking for anything and everything... audio, video, photos, fliers, ticket stubs, the set list you picked up off the floor, and in general any mementos you may have from that around that time.
"Make your mark on these albums by e-mailing us at submissions@metclub.com to share your story and receive more info about submitting photos, videos, audio recordings and other mementos. Remember, we want everything (well, everything that's yours)! Nothing is too small or too trivial... share your archives with your fellow fans and have some fun with us walking down memory lane. By submitting it, you're saying we can use it should your piece of history land on a release (yes, the lawyers made us add this part!)."

About 3 years ago they did a complete remastered, mini-lp reissue series for Metallica in Japan. I bought the entire set. I would describe the mastering of those as poor. The original CD issues are far superior. Maybe they'll buck the trend and do some quality soft remasters (like Led Zeppelin) for the American market but I'd say odds are against it.
I also doubt they have much in the way of quality unreleased material. They basically got all the quality non-lp stuff out there with the Garage INC collection.
Only way I'd buy these is if they get some really positive reviews once they hit the market.

I would think given the treatment of mastering the last decade+ for this type of music (and most music in general), that expectations should be that this will be terrible. I would be shocked if these aren't terrible.

Wasn't there a remix of "Whiplash" on the Whiplash EP that Megaforce put out with a couple of live tracks? I have the vinyl but haven't listened to it in over 20 years I'm sure. Has that ever made it to a CD?

I don't think the Whiplash remix ever made it to the compact disc.

So I wasn't imagining that? How about the two live tracks? They're the same ones that were on the "Jump In The Fire" 12" once upon a time.

I would love to hear a complete remix of And Justice For All. Great songs but the drum sound was terrible.
Lars' drum sound has never been that good, but that whole disc needs some bottom end. Poor Jason... all that hell to replace Cliff and they castrate his sound on the album.

Yeah, I remember really liking the bass on the Garage Days EP--very nimble and not the typical metal lines--and then being incredibly disappointed at the sound on "Justice" because I couldn't hear him at all.

The Creeping Death and Jump In the Fire 12" singles were issued on a "2 for 1" compact disc by Music For Nations in the 80s. So the two live tracks have been issued on CD.

Metallica Detail Deluxe 'Kill 'Em All,' 'Ride the Lightning' Reissues
Metallica have revealed the contents of the deluxe editions of Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning that they will be putting out this spring. Each album has been remastered and will be available on CD and vinyl, as well as in a deluxe box set. In addition to the original albums, the lavish box sets will contain original source material from the band's vaults, including previously unreleased music, and a book containing rare photos and essays. All editions will come out on April 15th.
The deluxe box set of Kill 'Em All will contain four LPs, five CDs, a DVD and a deluxe book with rare photos and a patch. Ride the Lightning will also contain four vinyl records, along with six CDs, a DVD and a book with previously undistributed photos, a mini-book of James Hetfield's handwritten lyrics, and three posters. The full track list for each is below.
The group also posted to samples of rarities that will appear on the deluxe box sets. The first is a version of Kill 'Em All's "Phantom Lord" that they recorded live in Paris in 1984. Hetfield introduces the band as "a bunch of alcoholics from California" to the audience and dedicates to the people who had the group's early demos and "all the old stuff."
The second is an instrumental, raw "garage demo" of Ride the Lightning's title track that Lars Ulrich uncovered while putting together the reissues. It begins with the band members declaring the tape recorder is playing.
Metallica kicked off their reissue campaign last year, when they reissued their No Life 'Til Leather demo cassette. Ulrich told Rolling Stone at the time, that it was a sign of things to come. "It's time for us to put out some next-level reissues and do the song and dance of the catalog that everyone else has done; the U2s and the Led Zeppelins and the Oasises," he said. "Instead of starting with Kill 'Em All, which came out in 1983, we figured we'd go back another two years to when the band was formed in 1981."
