Who would have predicted that 2016 would turn out to be the most productively successful year since their early days for a band whose history stretches back to the birth of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal?
Much has been written about the role the Tygers played in the establishment of the movement and about the comings and goings within the band, but it is safe to say that the current line up brings a creative stability and a shared camaraderie that will keep them together, playing live and making records for some time to come. The year began the signing of a new record deal with Scandinavia's premier rock& metal label Mighty Music giving the band the opportunity to record the material they had written and honed in a burst of activity in late 2015. Whilst the band were happy to produce themselves at The Blast Studio in Newcastle they knew that the mix needed a fresh pair of ears.
Mighty Music CEO Michael H. Andersen recommended Soren Andersen/Medley Studio for the mix of the album. Having heard and been impressed by material recorded and mixed by Soren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Mike Tramp) the Tygers sought out his services. Soren was only too happy to work with a band whose credentials were so firmly established. For the mastering, Harry Hess of Harem Scarem fame was the perfect man for the job. Leaving the music in his capable hands, next stop for the band was South America.
Having no idea what reception they would receive they were overwhelmed by the fierce dedication of the fans in Brazil and Columbia, who, in many cases, had waited years for an opportunity to witness the live show. From South America to Europe without a breath and then on to North America where they headlined Chicago s Ragnarokkr festival. To say they aced it is an understatement and in the words of the promoter "The Tygers started the first Ragnarokkr riot because people were so pumped up."

NWOBHM outfot expect record to be released in August Tygers Of Pan Tang are in the studio working on a new album having signed a deal with Mighty Music/Target Group.
The self-titled album will be released in August, with a European tour to follow. It's being recorded at Newcastle's Blast Studio.
Mainman Rob Weir tells TeamRock: “This is a landmark album for the Tygers. Self-titled and self-produced, we feel we have written some pretty special hard rock songs.
"The sound is classic Tygers and the new cover version we have chosen to record is spectacular – after all, Love Potion #9 is 34 years old.
"It's a big year for the band, with 10 shows in South America in March, then festivals in Chicago, Ibiza, Gent, Alicante, a British tour starting October 21 and a European tour, we're going to be applying to the time lords for membership."
Michael H Andersen, CEO of Mighty Music/Target Group, adds: “It’s no less than a landmark for our company to have signed Tygers Of Pan Tang.
"Having worked with, and still working with, artists like Mike Tramp, Volbeat and Pretty Maids, it is a great honour to welcome The Tygers to our family.
"After visiting the band in the Blast Studio in Newcastle, I have no doubts this is gonna be a classic hard rock album my staff and I will be very proud of releasing."

Who's in the band these days?
Robb Weir leads the band as always.
As for the rest, I know vocalist Jacopo Meille has been there for over a decade. He's an Italian singer and a really good one which is why the band still works.
Craig Ellis has been on drums since 2000.
The bass player Gav Gray and second guitarist Micky Crystal (I think?) have been there about 5 years or so.
I love those classic first four albums and to me that's all that the Tygers truly are, but the last couple albums (which I admit I only checked out a few years ago thinking they might suck) are really damn good if you can accept it for what it is.
I interviewed Robb for my guitar players book and he could not have been nicer and offered loads of details about the band's history, including the Sykes era.
I will probably get this new album based on the last couple.
You can hear how good their last album Ambush (2012) was right here, which has a lot of meaty riffs, no frills and classic Tygers sounds, and Meille is a really good Hard Rock singer...
