RHINO LAUNCHES FIRST EVER "START YOUR EAR OFF RIGHT" CAMPAIGN

Exclusive Releases Available From Bad Company, Blue Man Group, The Cars, Cibo Matto, Devo, Grateful Dead, The Monkees, The Replacements, Velvet Underground, And More

Legendary Rhino Wall Calendar Available To Consumers For The First Time As Gift With Purchase At Participating Stores

LOS ANGELES - January has long been a barren wasteland in the world of new music releases. With most acts rushing to get albums out before the holidays, the first month of the year has far too often been an afterthought to record labels. Rhino changes all that in 2016 with their first ever "Start Your Ear Off Right" campaign. On Tuesday, January 19, Rhino will release 17 titles from some of the most revered acts in music including Bad Company, The Cars, Devo, The Replacements, and Velvet Underground, many of them limited editions. Full details are listed below. These will be available only at participating brick and mortar retail outlets. For a full list, please visit http://www.rhino.com/syeor.

The Monkees will kick off their 50th Anniversary with two special releases as part of the "Start Your Ear Off Right" campaign on January 19. The Monkees Cereal Box Singles features faithful reproductions, cardboard and all, of four vinyl 7-inch singles mirroring the 1960's cereal box giveaways. The Monkees Classic Album Collection will also be available, compiling all 10 of the band's classic studio albums in one boxed set.

January 19 will also see the first breakout single show from the Grateful Dead's sold-out 30 Trips Around The Sun boxed set will also be available with the release of the 3-LP set Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, CA 11/10/67, which will be a limited edition of 6,700 copies.

The iconic Blue Man Group will release their first new music since 2012 as part of Rhino's "Start Your Ear Off Right" campaign with a limited edition 7-inch of their two new tracks "Giacometti" and
"Ready Go" pressed on blue vinyl.

As a nod to Rhino's past, fans can also purchase a limited edition reissue of the classic 7-inch single "Some Kazoos" from the Temple City Kazoo Orchestra, which was one of the label's first ever releases back in 1978.

For the first time ever, Rhino's legendary wall calendar, long a music industry-only perk for record label employees, radio DJs, journalists, record store owners, and other insiders will now be available to the public. For a limited time, anyone who purchases one of the "Start Your Ear Off Right" releases at participating music retailers will receive a free copy of the Rhino calendar, while supplies last. Barnes & Noble customers will receive a unique, limited edition vinyl slipmat with any "Start Your Ear Off Right" purchase.

Here are the titles to be released:

Bad Company - Rock N Roll Fantasy: The Very Best Of Bad Company - 180-gram, 2-LP set, $31.98

So this stuff is a Tuesday release? Bucking the trend!

Actually, there are a couple of these I may try to pick up, pending availability when I can get to B&N.

Jamal told me about this yesterday, they solicited him for orders. Basically, Rhino couldn't wait between Record Store Days, and is creating its own.

P.S. My Temple City Kazoo Orchestra record is a 12" EP on (mostly) orange vinyl. What's this about a 7"?

The Stax 9CD set is a general release, and far cheaper to purchase from the UK:

The Monkees' CD box is also less expensive from the UK:

I went to B&N yesterday. They hadn't gotten their shipment yet.

Hey Jimbo - How is the Monkees cereal box set? I've been eyeing it. I want to grab it when I get to my favorite record store

Willy: not a lot to it--you get four cardboard records (and an extra backing card) in a plastic sleeve. Same design on all 4, no liner notes. But, you know, for Monkeemaniacs...gotta have it.

Thanks Jimbo - Not sure I want to pony up the dollars for something I already own - minus the box that it comes in.

Found the Devo last night. No luck on Blue Man Group.

I scored the Monkees - Classic Album Collection boxed set from my local indie retailer. I've got every Monkees CD Rhino has ever released, so the only new track for me is the 1986 remix "I'm A Believer". It's nice to have everything in one package, though.

Ended up getting the Blue Man Group single from bn.com. Found it in the mailbox yesterday. They sent it in one of those press-sealed flat corrugated packages. It was folded to fit in the mailbox.

Fortunately, it was packed inside another cardboard folder, and the crease was at the edge of the record instead of having the record broken so it would fit.

ETA: No marking on the package indicating that it shouldn't be bent or folded. It makes me leery to order any 12" vinyl from bn.com. Amazon did a much better job packaging my Roger Taylor vinyl.

How is the packaging on this? Are the sleeves the usual thin cardboard as found in Rhino's Original Album Series 5 CD collections? Or a little better?

Oh well... I'll pick it up anyway. Gotta have the 1986 remix. Thanks.
