Wow, that is spooky. Enjoyed her brief work with the Airplane. RIP and join hand and hand with Paul to heaven.

Report: Jefferson Airplane Original Vocalist Signe Anderson Dies

Just one day after co-founder Paul Kantner died comes news another Jefferson Airplane founding member has apparently passed away. The band's Mary Balin posts on his Facebook page that Signe [SIG-nee] Anderson, the band's first vocalist, has died.

"One sweet Lady has passed on," Balin writes. "I imagine that she and Paul woke up in heaven and said 'Hey what are you doing here? Let's start a band' and no sooner then said Spencer was there joining in! Heartfelt thoughts to all their family and loved ones."

"Spencer" is former Jefferson Airplane drummer Spencer Dryden. He died in 2005.

Anderson sang on Jefferson Airplane's first album, 1966's Jefferson Airplane Takes Off, but left the band not long after the album was released, making way for Grace Slick to join.

There's no word yet on exactly when Anderson died or the cause of death, though there are reports she died Friday, the same day as Kantner. She was also the same age as Kantner -- 74 years old.

I often wondered what would have been if she never left. Grace brought with her their two break out hits Somebody To Lovr and White Rabbit. Would they have records them anyway. Would they have still become one of the huge bands of the 60's or been a good band live Quicksilver, known only to a smaller segment? Would Grace Slick have made it solo or with the Great Society?

From her Wikipedia page:

After leaving the Airplane she returned to Oregon where she sang for nine years with a ten-piece band, Carl Smith and the Natural Gas Company. In the mid 1970s she recovered from cancer. In 1977 she married local building contractor Michael Alois Ettlin, and continued to sing with Carl Smith. In the mid 1990s, Anderson suffered further serious health problems. While she recovered from these ailments her family faced serious financial problems from the costs involved.

She had made guest appearances with the KBC Band and Jefferson Starship.

Anderson's husband, Michael Alois Ettlin, died at the age of 62, on February 21, 2011.

Anderson died on January 28, 2016, the same day as fellow Jefferson Airplane co-founder Paul Kantner.

Can you imagine a world without Grace Slick?

No, I am sure she would have found a spot in a famous band somewhere...sort of the same for Ringo if they didn't drop Pete Best.
