Ugh.

He was on my favorite album ever made-Rising by Rainbow.

Besides Rainbow, he played with Dio, Wild Horses and Phil Lynott (and also played bass on the Thin Lizzy song "With Love").

A hard driving sound that was very distinctive.

He lived life hard and partied but he made it to 68.

R.I.P.

I'm hearing he died onboard the Def Leppard Rock Cruise which had just left Miami the other day. Eddie Trunk is also onboard.

RIP from this big Rainbow fan :(

Yep. MIke Savoia (photographer) is working the cruise and posted a pic from what was suppose to be Last In Line's set, but ended up being a memorial service with the rest of the band and Jimmy's bass on a stand on the stage.

RIP.

And I'm with Chris. I've had enough for quite a while.

I was playing a lot of Rainbow last night as well. WOW.

I feel almost insensitive for what I wrote, but you're trying to come to terms with the last one (or the other ones) and another one gets piled on top.

And this one, along with Dale Griffin of Mott The Hoople, will not get the widespread coverage that Bowie and Frey did. And I'm not saying those guys don't deserve it, but...

Hell, I'm still trying to come to grips with Lemmy being gone, let alone the rest.

I did feel sad about Lemmy. I was never really a Motorhead fan, but I certainly respected him and did like a few of their songs.

But the more recent ones have hit closer to home for me.

I'm not one of these people who thinks they "know" these guys -- but their music has affected me and been a big part of my life. And I can sympathize with you and the Motorhead fans who are dealing with such a great loss.

That's the thing - I'm not a huge Motorhead fan either. I like a few songs and have a few albums, but he just loomed so large in the hard rock world, from being Hendrix' roadie, to his time in Hawkwind. He was like a walking talking part of hard rock history.

And this is not to take away from Jimmy - as I said in my first post, my teenaged self is having a rough time with this. Holy Diver was one of the first heavy metal records I bought with my own money, and Dio was my first concert.

You don't have to be a huge fan of something to not feel some sadness over the passing of a legend. I'm not the worlds biggest David Bowie fan, but I did like a lot of his stuff and respected him for doing different things throughout his career.

I never got to see Ronnie James Dio live, but Holy Diver was a great album. I'll never forget the anticipation I had for that album, wondering how Ronnie would sound post-Sabbath. As soon as I heard those opening chords to "Stand Up And Shout," I knew all was well.

Right on about that! Lemmy even saw The Beatles at the Cavern Club before they broke. WOW!
