Interesting that the live version of "After the Love Has Gone" (which didn't belong here anyway) is replaced with "Love Lives On" from Chicago XXXVI: Now which was not on Rhino, but Frontiers Records.

Did they remove "After The Love Has Gone" because it's not originally a Chicago song or because they jettisoned Bill Champlin, who wrote and sang this version? Anyway, it's an odd album to re-release.

I'm sure they did it because they fired Bill Champlin -- they have basically written him out of their history now......

That would be my guess, plus it's not a Chicago song.

This has been reissued for Valentine's Day obviously.

I can't imagine they remastered the tracks again, but maybe?

The solicitation said that it's newly remastered.

It's not like he was in the band a long time or anything.

Bill was only in Chicago for just 28 years - that's all. He was the only member to be on that live version of "After The Love Was Gone", as Earth, Wind & Fire played the music. I'm sure it was viewed as an expendable song on this comp.

Bill once told how he was discussing the EWF combo tour with Chicago's manager. The manager asked him if there were any EWF songs that he could sing in collaboration with them. Bill said their manager had no idea that he co-wrote their biggest hit.

It was no secret that Bill was unhappy during his last ten years or so with Chicago. Both parties are better off going their separate paths. However, Chicago (the band/corporation) has a history of getting rid of members in a ruthless manner. Just ask Donnie, Peter, Danny, Dawayne, or Bill. They are unceremoniously separated from the group and are left to figure out their place in the world with hurt feelings and no closure. That's why the R&RHOF reunion could be an opportunity to smooth some things over.

Maybe if he'd stuck around, he'd be worthy of being part of the band's history.

Maybe if he'd stuck around ?????????

They fired Champlin !!! Bill played a major part in the resurrection of Chicago starting with "16" -- check out who did lead vocals on the majority of their hits after Peter Cetera was ousted -- Champlin.

Do your homework when you talk about someone being worthy.

Sorry - I have been close friends with Bill for the last 25 years and the whole Champlin/Chicago debacle irritates me to put it mildly........
