Christmas Bells, Again
I heard the bells on Christmas Day Their old familiar carols play, This time of year So full of cheer Of peace on earth, good-will to men.
For centuries now we’ve sung these songs, Yet still the world is filled with wrongs, And yet to see A time so free Of peace on earth, good-will to men.
Man, still at war with man, hears not The Word of love that God has brought, The lovely Word So seldom heard Of peace on earth, good-will to men.
The murderers stalk the streets of France, And here as well they still advance, With rifle shots Destroying thoughts Of peace on earth, good-will to men.
And those entrusted with Good News, Forbear to share it, because they choose To hide with fear The message dear Of peace on earth, good-will to men.
When finally our Prince of Peace returns, And from this world the curse he burns, At last will reign In truth the strain Of peace on earth, good-will to men.
Till then, we have His charge to seek To offer the Word, and turn the cheek, And live each day His appointed way, With peace on earth, good-will to men.
