I always confused PF Sloan with PP Arnold.

Because, you know, they look so much alike.





RIP, thanks for the tunes. My favorite was "You, Baby" - either the Turtles' version, or the Mamas & The Papas, take your pick, both were great, which means it was well-written.

What a great artist this guy was. And here are a couple things I didn't know:

Jan Berry used Sloan as the lead falsetto voice instead of Dean Torrence on the band's top 10 hit "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena".

Sloan created and played a guitar introduction as a hook to a new song by John Phillips entitled "California Dreamin'", and the same backing track was used for the hit version by Phillips' group the Mamas & the Papas,

Sloan generally played the lead guitar tracks on most of the songs he wrote, including the famous riff in "Secret Agent Man."

And being a big surf music fan he created The Fantastic Baggys, which were an American surf and hot rod group, created by P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri. The studio group released several successful singles under the leadership of Sloan and Barri, most well known for the more popular duo Jan & Dean.

Under the name The Fantastic Baggys, they released one album internationally, Tell 'Em I'm Surfin' (1964) on Imperial Records, several hit singles and several albums only in South Africa.
