Paris is in the midst of coordinated terrorist attacks, and one of the attacks was on an Eagles of Death Metal concert, where 60 people have been taken hostage. I just can't even imagine.

PARIS (AP) — The latest on shootings and explosions in Paris. (all times local):

12 a.m.

Two Paris police officials say security forces have ended their assault on a concert hall filled with hostages, killing at least two attackers. Neither official could be named, citing ongoing operations throughout the city.

One official described "carnage" inside the building, saying the attackers had tossed explosives at the hostages. Both officials said they expected the toll of victims to rise.

I don't think I want to see that. It was bad enough seeing the images of people fleeing into the alley and hearing the gunfire.

It's only footage of the band, but damn, the person filming must have been fairly close to the shooters. It's surprisingly loud.

Campaign launched to get Eagles of Death Metal to top of UK singles chart
Fans have set up a campaign to get the rock group who were performing at a concert hall in Paris amid the terror attacks on Friday, to the top of the UK singles chart

Fans have launched an online campaign to push Eagles of Death Metal, the rock group who were performing at a concert hall in Paris amid the terror attacks on Friday, to the top of the UK singles chart.

The deadly terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday night killed 129 people and wounded 352. Music venue Le Bataclan was the scene of one of the attacks, with over 80 civilians killed during a shooting at an Eagles of Death Metal gig.

To “show solidarity against terrorism and support for peace”, a group has been set up on Facebook in a bid to get the rock group’s track, Save a Prayer, a cover of the Duran Duran song, to UK No 1. It is not yet known whether Duran Duran will donated proceeds to victims of the attacks.

A post on the Facebook page reads:

For those unaware, EODM and their fans were the band caught up in the horrific atrocities in Paris this week. We thought it would be a nice gesture to put their brilliant version of Save a Prayer to the UK No 1 spot as a show of support to the band and all of those affected.

For the record no we aren’t associated with the band or their record company, we’re just fans of them that feel happy to be alive, as some of our fellow EODM fans are tragically not now.

Royalties we assume would go to Duran Duran as they wrote the song but that’s not the point of this campaign. This is not for profit or financial gain, just to make a strong statement.

So far, the track has reached No 1 in the Amazon rock charts, No 1 on the iTunes Rock chart already and No 35 on the iTunes’ main chart. The official charts company will announce the UK official No 1 on Friday 20 November.

Details of how to purchase the track are available from the Facebook group.

Duran Duran to donate royalties of Eagles of Death Metal's cover to charity
Band are considering ‘options that are useful, peaceful & uniting’ for donations following the campaign to get Save a Prayer to No 1 after Paris terror attacks

Duran Duran have pledged to donate proceeds from sales of Eagles of Death Metal’s cover of Save a Prayer to charity.

A fan-led campaign has made a bid to get the track by the US rock band to the top of the charts following Friday’s terror attacks in Paris. Eagles of Death Metal performed at music venue Le Bataclan on Friday, with over 80 people killed during a shooting at the gig.

Announcing the pledge via Twitter on Monday, Simon Le Bon, who wrote the original 1982 single, posted: “EODMforNo1 DuranDuran will donate all proceeds due to us, from this version. Considering options that are useful, peaceful & uniting.”

According to the midweek UK Official Charts, the track has entered at No 96, and could climb as more data arrives in from chart-reporting retailers and streaming services throughout the week.

The campaign’s Facebook group currently has over 12,000 members. Eagles of Death Metal have yet to make a statement following the Paris attacks.

Le Bataclan manager: "We will reopen, we will not surrender"

In a new Billboard feature on Le Bataclan, the Paris venue that was hosting the Eagles of Death Metal show during this past weekend's tragic attacks, the manager promises that it will reopen:

Fluctuat nec mergitur is a Latin saying that translates to "Tossed but never sunk," and it's a motto of sorts for many Parisians. Dominique Revert, the club's co-manager who was not present the night of the shootings, conjures it now and says it will be Le Bataclan's raison d'etre moving forward. "It will reopen, no question about it," he says. "Hearts will be heavy for a few months, a few years. But we will reopen. We will not surrender."

You can read more here. EODM posted a statement too.

Anyone think it's unbelievable that Brussels has essentially closed the city for days now (and till Wednesday) because of the fear of an attack? Imagine closing Manhattan for days? What kind of Intel do the have? Frightening.

I think it's more likely a lack of Intel. They basically have an entire section of the city that has been infiltrated by radicals and it's pretty difficult to do much for various reasons, including the EU's surveillance laws and how hard it is to keep track of immigrants and refugees.

I was in Brussels (vacation) about a month ago. It looks weird seeing it on TV now.

My son was in Brussels this past May and things were fine at that time.
