(hennemusic) Swedish rockers Ghost have picked up their first Grammy Awards nomination for "Cirice", the lead single from the band's latest album, "Meliora."\

A finalist in the Best Metal Performance category at next February's event in Los Angeles, the song goes up against Slipknot's "Custer", Lamb Of God's "512", "Thank You" by Sevendust, and "Identity" by August Burns Red.

The 58th Annual Grammy Awards will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 15 and broadcast on CBS starting at 8 p.m. ET.

Nice!

There's a transcription of "From The Pinnacle To The Pit" in the new Guitar World, as well. "Cirice" was in a few months ago.

Considering who was nominated, Ghost is probably the most deserving. But to be honest, I don't think any of the artists that were nominated should have been.

These should have been the five:

Amorphis - Under the Red Cloud
Cain's Offering - Stormcrow
Cattle Decapitation - The Anthropocene Extinction
Enslaved - In Times
Iron Maiden - The Book of Souls

And from those the winner should have been the Amorphis record. Absolutely brilliant.

Ok, this may be a silly question, but who's the guy in the sunglasses? If you watch the video below, he's one of the two people shown walking in behind the band when they arrive. Then when the winner was announced, the two are shown walking down the aisle before the camera cuts to the band walking down another aisle. He follows the band onstage, and Papa E gives him a hug. The second guy doesn't appear to come onstage. Are we seeing a former ghoul without his mask (or perhaps a studio sideman)? Given the band's penchant for maintaining their anonymity, it would be a bit of a surprise, but only 4 of the nameless ghouls are shown. It might be interesting to watch the video again to see it's possible to determine which ghoul is missing.

From Gibson.com:

Given the obvious – all the band members wear identical masks and clothes – it’s almost next to impossible to tell.

However, several rock and metal websites have been reporting that in a recent interview, the Grammy-winning Swedish metal/rock band’s leader –musician Tobias Forge (though his persona is the frontman Papa Emeritus, he’s believed to dress up as one of the band’s Nameless Ghouls and answers all interviews himself) – led fans to believe that not only will the band’s upcoming European tour feature a new line-up, but also that the line-up maybe have changed multiple times over the last few years and no one would have known.

Speaking to Metal Wani, Forge said, “From a practical point of view, you're interested in, on the one hand, preserving the sound, or the elements that make up the sound, and you still wanna progress. I think one of the secrets behind our preserving ability is the fact that we don't necessarily have to have the same six people in the room to make that sound, which helps.”

He went on to add, “performing Ghost and recording Ghost has never really been the same thing. So that we can preserve our sound; we don't have to rely on… if some people come and go, which is good.”

So enigmatic, yes. A definite answer? No.

Forge also revealed that the band was still in the process of recording the follow-up to 2015’s Meliora: “Right now we're in the writing phase. I'm not done with the record. It's not gonna be recorded until… We're gonna start for real in August. As soon as we come home from the American tour, it's gonna start."

That's the first time I've heard an actual name attributed to the band. Haven't gone looking, either. Don't really care - I kinda like the mystique.

That said, I'd heard that the bassist on the last tour was a woman, and that the former bassist was now playing the white guitar. I'd also heard there have been at least two different ghouls playing the black guitar.

Don't know, don't care. All I know is that band is freaking awesome, and I'll go see them any time they're in town. Except at the outdoor pavilion (probably). I hate that place. Went the year it opened, haven't been back. Almost 30 years now...

Ghost's Nameless Ghouls who filed a lawsuit against frontman Papa Emeritus a.k.a. Tobias Forge, have identified themselves in a lengthy statement that disclosed their reasons for the legal action.

The message was posted on guitarist Simon Soderberg's Facebook page and reveals the real names of The Nameless Ghouls that filed the lawsuit include Soderberg (Alpha), Mauro Rubino (Air), Henrik Palm (Eather), Martin Hjertstedt (Earth).

They made the posting last Thursday and wrote in part, "As of yesterday we, four signatories from the band Ghost, have filed a lawsuit with the Linköping District Court. We are suing Tobias Forge ('Papa Emeritus') - the band's lead singer who has also been responsible for the finances of the band since its founding.

"As of the filing of this lawsuit we are requesting that the court, under penalty, oblige Tobias Forge to declare the incomes as well as expenses of the band concerning the years between 2011 and 2016.

"Throughout all the years we have been on tour with Ghost (between 2011-2016 some of us have performed something like 500 shows with the band) and throughout the band's album recordings, we have neither been allowed to share in the profits of the band, nor have we seen any of the incomes accounted for.

"The only thing we have received have been minimal advance payments to allow the band to keep going. This despite the fact that we had an agreement that any profits should be shared fairly between the members of the band.
When we have attempted to raise the issue of the band's finances with Tobias Forge his sole response has been that there are so far no profits to be share, but that everyone will be generously compensated once the band turns a profit.

"The reason that this lawsuit is now being filed is a contract dispute that has escalated during the previous year (2016). Over the last year we have received multiple proposed contracts from Tobias Forge in which he seeks to redefine his role in the band." Read the full statement here.

Papa Emeritus III was dragged off-stage during "Monstrance Clock" last night. Papa Emeritus Zero came out afterwards and made an announcement (I'm going on comment section translations here - I don't speak Swedish).

Likely the end of the Popestar tour, and thus, Emeritus III is finished as a character. Each Papa only does an album. It's also a convenient way to explain to a judge that the guilty party has been expelled from the band :)

Yes. Sorry - I took it as a given that anyone interested in this thread knew that.
