Lucy Shaw Joins Squeeze as New Bassist! SATURDAY, AUGUST 8, 2015 AT 04:32PM
Chris and Glenn are proud to announce that Lucy Shaw is joining Squeeze on bass guitar. Lucy plays bass on half of the new album ‘Cradle To The Grave’, as well as contributing a large part of the string arrangements. Her own musical experience is pretty wide - ranging from playing double bass on sessions for Stevie Wonder, Florence & The Machine, Paul McCartney. On films such as The Hobbit and Mission Impossible. To writing orchestral arrangements for The Noisettes and Marina & The Diamonds. As well as taking up bass duties for Rumer, Jeff Beck and a certain Glenn Tilbrook & The Fluffers. Lucy works and plays with Ignite, ensemble-in-residence for the Wigmore Hall learning department, and is a composer for TDLP children’s creative projects and shows, most recently at the V&A museum. She has also been working part time as a classical Double Bassist for main London orchestras like the Royal Philharmonic, the English Chamber Orchestra and Britten Sinfonia. Lucy is very excited to be a new member of the band Squeeze. She has been friends with the band for a long time and is a big fan of her predecessor John Bentley’s tasteful playing and pork pie hats. She hopes her diverse musical experience, together with her work with toddlers, will in some way prepare her for fun times ahead with Glenn, Chris, Simon and Stephen as part of Squeeze.

I just ordered the limited edition version from the Squeeze website today. I am sure I could have bought it much cheaper if I'd waited but I'm glad to support this band. Regarding Lucy Shaw, she has been a member of Tilbrook's band for several years now. Beyond her talents as a musician, she's one of the prettiest musicians in the business these days, so I'm glad to see her joining up with Squeeze.

I see that she used to play with Jeff Beck. Given that Tal Wilkenfeld also played with him, I guess that he has a thing for attractive young female bassists. There are worse habits one could have!
Seriously, with all the Squeeze songs about domestic life, "Cradle to the Grave" is a perfect Squeeze title, I think. I'll get this from their Web site, too.

Looking forward to this. I have the title track and Top of the Form on their EP from a couple of years ago, but it's still a new album and a great cover. I've ordered from the web site because I can't live without the replica train ticket! Better still is the early shipping!

And yeah, it's official - with the addition of Lucy, Squeeze is now "Glenn Tilbrook & The Fluffers, Featuring Chris Difford." It was already most of the way there with Simon Hansen and Steve Large.
