The doors are open at Super Hero High — which marks the official launch of DC Super Hero Girls, the collaborative effort between DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Mattel aimed at girls aged 6-12, intended to broaden the appeal of characters such as Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn and Batgirl.

The initiative launches Thursday with the unveiling of the U.S. portal DCSuperHeroGirls.com, ahead of an international roll-out later this month. The website features "Welcome to Super Hero High," the first in a series of digital shorts created by Warner Bros. Animation, as well as a number of games, quizzes and character bios introducing the audience to the main characters in the push.

The website launch will be followed by a substantial presence at next week's New York Comic-Con, which will include a sneak peek at Mattel's line of "action dolls" — the first-ever 6-inch action figures created for girls — in addition to a dedicated panel on Oct. 8 featuring Shea Fontana, writer of the initial Super Hero Girls graphic novel; Lisa Yee, who's writing tie-in prose books for Random House; and Christine Kim and Tania Missad from Mattel. Previews of the first middle-grade prose release will be given away for free by Random House during the convention.

"DC Entertainment has a deep and rich roster of strong female characters — both heroes and villains — that have inspired and empowered girls and young women for decades," DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson said in a statement. "Girls want to experience the strength, action and optimism of Super Heroes too, and DC Super Hero Girls is part of our long-term strategy to offer a diverse array of strong female characters in a fun and action-packed universe, and through a world of epic storytelling on a variety of entertainment platforms. We could not be more excited and proud to debut today’s first phase of the important new universe for girls."
