Couldn't the suits who're behind stuff like this be a little imaginative and at least call these "The REALLY Essential"?

the true fan-fuck would be to put one or 2 tracks on there that were NOT on the original 3 CD version.

i put nothing past them anymore, nothing....they are grabbing for every dollar that they can get out the old diehard fans...........

Diehard fans won't need this. Again, I don't get why people here get so outraged. Hits packages are for casual fans etc. most of the time.

While the existing set does have that 3rd disc of rare stuff that most in the series don't have, I would think it's unlikely that this will have anything
rare. In fact what's going to happen is removing older songs to include radio nowhere and couple other new ones I'm sure...

I don't really care if they switch out an older song for a song or two from more recent albums.

The fans that complain the most are fans who have it all. The person on the street is getting this at Target or Walmart and thinking - "oh I like Springsteen
I'll pick this up."

OK, i misunderstood, i thought you meant "new" songs, like never before released....that would be a money grab for sure.

I have the Australian version of this but I would buy it again if it had "Held Up Without A Gun" which hasn't been issued on CD ever.

I saw the import version of this release (packaged in a "super CD" case) at a local B&M today... the tracklist appeared to be identical to the first two discs of the previously released version.

Essential includes a live version. The studio version, B-side of "Hungry Heart," has never been issued on CD.

Adding insult to injury, the live version is very low fidelity as well.

Because you're like me... you enjoy seeing a good wreck now and then.

Whom are you blaming, the labels or the artists? Springsteen probably has no say in this release and possibly won't even be aware of it until he sees it on Amazon. That's what Billy Joel said about his own compilations recently.

That said ... if this has something unique, then it will be a worthwhile reissue.

...and I've been waiting for this damn song, all one minute or so of it, to appear on CD for a long time! Most of his oddball stuff has shown up somewhere, particularly with "Tracks" and the third disc of this "Essential". "Held Up Without A Gun" gets no love!
