Sorry for taking up bandwidth with more family stuff, but I like to share with my friends here when really cool things happen. Last weekend I took Jack to his first PGA event--the Deutschebank Classic. He's a huge golf fan. We watch golf together almost every Saturday, and he comes out with us on Sundays to watch and cheer us on. On Saturday we spent some time on the first tee,and got to see some of the best players in the world--Phil Mickelson, Rory McElroy, Jason Day, Jordan Spieth--from about 10 feet away. We were up front and had a great view. After Phil hit, Bones (his caddie) walked over to Jack and, saying "Phil wants him to have these," gave him a glove and ball. Jack was so excited he wouldn't take the glove off for the rest of the day. We also got to spend time on a par three and another player walked over and gave Jack a ball. We went back on Monday for the final, and before play began Ricky Fowler, the eventual winner, gave Jack a glove. Several players also gave him balls. But the highlight came when we saw Phil Mickelson coming off the 18th green. Bones recognized Jack and pushed him to a players-only area so Jack could meet Phil and get an autograph and photo. For the next couple of days he kept telling everyone about "my friend Phil." It was a wonderful weekend and I can't wait to take him again next year.

BRAVO to all the golfers involved and to the Smiff family!

I have to tell you, these guys are awesome. So many of them reached out to Jack, even though they were playing for millions of dollars. After Jack got the glove on Saturday I sent an email to Phil's foundation (in the hope it would reach him) telling him how much Jack loves golf and what Phil's kindness meant to Jack. I also told him a little about Jack's disorder and sent a pic of Jack wearing Phil's glove and holding up the ball. I got a really nice response from the president of the Foundation telling me how much they appreciated my sharing Jack's story and that he would get the email to Phil. He and his people are class acts.

I second all of the great comments here Smiff. And you guys saw a great tournament last weekend. I can't wait to see who wins the playoffs. I'm pissed that they're taking a week off this week.

Thanks guys (and Linda) Marcus: I know, it's a great hat, right? Want me to send you one? Larry: Jack will be bummed that there's no tour golf on this weekend (though, he does love to watch the LPGA). We will take him out with us on Sunday when we play. We tie him into the cart so he doesn't fall out, and the pro lets us drive right up to the green so he can watch. The best part is on drives because when you take a practice shot he thinks you missed the ball and he yells "oooooh! Miss!" and if you take too long to swing he yells "hit it! hit it!" We have a blast.
