Description
'Deliverance & Damnation', a double album almost 15 years in the making. Originally released separately in 2002 and 2003 respectively, these sessions were written and recorded together and it’s time for Music For Nations/The End Records to present the album as a complete piece. Music For Nations/The End Records will be releasing the double album in a beautifully reissued format that includes new stereo and 5.1 mixes by Steven Wilson and Bruce Soord, with artwork redesigned by original designer Travis Smith. Liner notes by Mikael Akerfeldt and Jerry Ewing of Prog in a lavish four disc bookset. Released on December 18th to coincide with Opeth’s 25 year anniversary, this is the perfect time for Music For Nations/The End Records to re-issue one of the band’s most essential releases, allowing fans new and old to experience 'Deliverance & Damnation' the way it should have always been.

This is just the preliminary info from Sony. It's definitely 4 discs, but might not be 4 CDs, and surely some of the tracks listed will be alternate versions. We shall see.

This should take the cake as the most pointless release of 2015.

Andy Sneap mixed Deliverance and he has one of the best reputations in metal.

Some bum named Steven Wilson mixed Damnation.

Maybe they could remaster these to make them less loud but the original releases are not brickwalled and sound more than OK to my ears. The mixes...there are no problems with this original mixes of these albums.

The only thing I can think of is that the four disc version will be a 2 CD/2 DVD (or BluRay) package where the DVDs (BluRays) contain 5.1 mixes. I don't believe these albums have gotten the 5.1 treatment and a good chunk of Opeth's catalog has.

There will be a 3 LP vinyl version as well.

I wonder why the remix. The originals sound great.

I should have checked the Amazon UK link prior to posting. 32+ GBP for a 4 disc reissued set of fairly recent releases remixed? Has to be 5.1 mixes at that price. Probably a 2 CD/2 DVD package.

Haven't heard if Steven Wilson has remixed these to 5.1. If that was true then it would be a must buy.

Ok this morning Steven Wilson confirmed that the 5.1 mix of Damnation is his but the 5.1 mix of Deliverance will be done by Bruce Soord.

So that's make this a must buy for me. 8-)

Opeth albums Deliverance and Damnation will be released as a single volume for the first time on October 30.

The title will arrive via the resurrected Music For Nations label.

Deliverance was originally launched in 2002 and Damnation followed the next year – but Mikael Akerfeldt and co had planned them as one volume.

Available in four-disc bookset and triple-vinyl editions, Deliverance & Damnation comes with 5.1 surround mixes, one by Steven Wilson and one by Bruce Soord, redesigned artwork and sleeve notes by Akerfeldt and Prog editor Jerry Ewing.

Akerfeldt says: “The 5.1 surround mix for Damnation was done a while ago by my buddy and co-producer for both albums, Steven Wilson – I’ve been itching to have it released as it’s simply stunning!

“My new-ish friend, Bruce Soord, has done a fantastic remix for Deliverance, literally giving new life to the record and making me start loving it. Finally!

“It was with pure excitement I went through the tracks, discovering them again. I’m especially impressed with the sound of Martin Lopez’s drums – but also baffled by how wicked and strange this album is. I’m scratching my head wondering how the hell we came up with these songs.

“On top of everything, our old-time head of art, Travis Smith, has touched up on the artwork having it looking great – bleak – too. Enjoy!”

Opeth, who celebrate their 25th anniversary this year, released 11th album Pale Communion in 2014.

Is this "Prog" Opeth, or "Metal" Opeth?

The prog album delivers you, and the metal album damns you. :)

One disc is metal and the other is acoustic.

And actually the "acoustic" disc is the least prog thing that Opeth has ever done.
