RPM/Columbia Records will release The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern, a new collaboration between Tony Bennett and jazz pianist Bill Charlap, on Sept. 25. The release continues Bennett’s album releases celebrating the Great American Songbook.
Also featured on the recording are pianist Renee Rosnes (Charlap’s wife), bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington.
Kern (1885-1945) is considered one of the 20th century's most important American composers of musical theater and popular music. He produced more than 700 songs, creating musical elements used in more than 100 stage works, collaborating with such lyricists and librettists of the era as P.G. Wodehouse, Oscar Hammerstein II, Dorothy Fields, Johnny Mercer, Ira Gershwin, E.Y. Harburg and many others. His compositions include "Ol' Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," "The Way You Look Tonight," "Long Ago and Far Away" and many more.
