I have that 2CD "Retrospective" album, which was nice for oddball solo tracks and the superior single version of "It Don't Matter To Me". One good thing about this new 3CD set is that it has the full-length version of Gates' proggy 9 minute "Suite: Clouds, Rain", which has a blistering Moog solo near the end by Larry Knechtel. Bread is one of those groups where a comp just doesn't cut it for me. I've had all the albums (except for the crappy reunion album "Lost Without Your Love") since they first came out, and the album tracks, not the hits, are what I want to hear these days. I don't know of another "soft rock" group with such strong album tracks.

I am surprised that the Universal Netherlands' Collected series does not have "Took The Last Train" since it has so many solo David Gates tunes. Even though I always found that song a little corny, I really liked it.

There isn't any songs from the spin-off band 'Toast' either

But they added a jam track, which sweetened the deal.

His next project Buttered Scone was very prog!

I think you're spreading yourself a little thin there.

Bread is as thin as the Air Supply.

Their pre-Bread material, recorded under the band name, Dough, was only half-baked.

They had some stuff that predated the Dough demos, but it was more of a flour-power sound than what they became known for.
