I have this one. This is basically a reissue of a Universal Netherlands release called Ultimate Collection (which was withdrawn not long after it came out). It contains the same original album mixes that were used on the Remastered Classics reissues (none of Richard's remixes). Sounds good.

i agree completely. the remastering is perfect and these are the original mixes we all love (NOT the crap-Richard-re-invent history mixes). a couple of oversights could have been remedied by filling-up the discs to 80 mins, especially disc 3, but it's still the best collection out there, in my opinion. with the exception of the omission of Honolulu City Lights, it's damn near perfect.

Good track listing. With the exceptions of the album cuts "This Masquerade" and "Desperado" its all their singles in chronological order.
I assume that "Calling Occupants..." is once again the full album version and not the single version without the DJ intro. I would buy it for that. Otherwise I have a half dozen copies (or more) of all of these songs already so I can't justify it.

well... HAPPY BIRTHDAY Actorman! the version of "calling occupants" clocks-in at 7:05 and is indeed the version you appear to be hoping for.

Anything that includes the originals and not the Richard-revised versions is great with me. I'd missed this one, but now it's been ordered.

anything in this Dutch-made series is terrific - always nicely remastered with album versions and that bonus half-filled (unfortunately) 3rd disc. the Grace Jones, 10CC, and SWING OUT SISTER sets are lovely as well.

I concur. The Steve Winwood one was hard to find but well worth having.

No, the single version of "Calling Occupants" has never appeared on CD. I edited down the album version from a CD to create the single version - however, the 1st second will not match up. Either you will be left with violins that overlap the first word, or you must take the first word from cleaned up vinyl. Can't remember which option I chose, but I'm glad I virtually have the single version on CD.

The single version of Calling Occupants was released on the Japanese box set of their singles, which I own. It is the only CD release I know of. Richard obviously hates the edit.

I just read this online: "That ultra-expensive box set contains a DISC DUB of "Calling Occupants." No kidding. [I] created a much better 45 edit using a 45 copy for the intro, then editing down the album version. (Though I'm still not 100% convinced the 45 is not a very, very slightly different mix... some of the stereo separation seems to be ever so slightly different than the album version.)"

I usually don't give much of a damn about these things, but The Carpenters are one of the few musical acts for which I'd like to have every available version of my favorite records of theirs. I now will see if I can get my hands on a 45 of "Calling...". I just ordered the Readers Digest collection. I had forgotten about it but all this Carpentry talk has made me start seeking again.

The Readers Digest Collection is unique for so many different reasons. The Now & Then Oldies medley is split into individual tracks including additional instrumentation from the sessions. Several remixes of other tracks not previously released. A real collectors item!
