What songs do you think can only be done justice by one group or performer.

I start with Jimmy cliff. Many rivers to cross.

No knock on his (obvious) talent, but emulation kinda proves the point.

Novelties, like bluegrass cover bands, do not count.

Can't say I agree that no one else should do a particular song, or at least I can't think of any examples. I love hearing different renditions of songs, whether by pros or amateurs.

I'm almost inclined to agree about "Bohemian Rhapsody" if only because I'm getting a bit tired of that song. But then there's this from the Freddy Mercury tribute concert:

Just no...

I was actually pissed off the one and only time I heard that travesty on the radio. When the song ended, the DJ's comment was, "Well... at least you can't say you haven't heard it..."

Jimi Hendrix, "All Along The Watchtower".

And the original composer and singer of that song, Bob Dylan, would agree with me.

(Dylan has said that he feels like he's performing a cover song whenever he sings that in concert.)

Doesn't seem too bad until the middle part when they sing, "Ooh, it makes me wonder..."

At minimum, any performance, by any non-Jamaican individual, of any song written by Bob Marley, should be strongly discouraged.

Correcting the grammar of songs such as "No Woman No Cry" and "Lively Up Yourself" also should not be tolerated.

It's really funny to me these days how earnest they all are about what is a nonsensical, meaningless - giibberish - lyric

Gotta say, I like Liza Minelli's original better. Also like Erma Franklin's original as much as BB&tHC's more famous cover.

Ever hear John Mellencamp's version from the Honeymoon In Vegas soundtrack? Quiet and in a minor key, he kind of makes you think that jail is an unpleasant place to be.

Just gave both a listen. Fail. Song, appropriated.

Loved the movie. Fail on permission to sing this song.
