Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks will release a four-disc box set featuring the best of his solo career this summer, it's been confirmed.

A Chord Too Far will launch on July 6 via Esoteric Recordings and will feature 49 tracks selected by Banks from his back catalogue, including several remixes.

The tracklist has been chosen to represent his work outside of Genesis and takes material from A Curious Feeling (1979), The Fugitive (1983), The Wicked Lady (1983), Soundtracks (1986), Bankstatement (1989), Still (1991), Strictly Inc (1995), and his orchestral albums Seven: A Suite for Orchestra (2004) and Six Pieces for Orchestra (2012).

Also included in the package are four previously unreleased pieces, including three demos from his orchestral suites along with a track originally written for Still.

A Chord Too Far is the first in a series of re-releases of Banks’ entire solo career. A Curious Feeling and The Fugitive will launch in October, while The Wicked Lady and Soundtracks will be re-released in January 2016. Further details will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile Genesis will release their third and final installment in their vinyl box set series titled Genesis: 1983-1998 on May 11 via Universal.

I have...and love...most of the material on this box set, but for anyone who hasn't heard Banks' solo material, this looks like a great overview. The "Bankstatement," "Still" and "Strictly Inc." albums are wonderful and sadly overlooked.

Marillion/Fish collectors should note that this box set includes all three of the Banks-Fish collaborations: "Shortcut To Somewhere", "Angel Face" and "Another Murder Of A Day".

Wow. I'm in like Flynn! I'm a HUGE Banks fan and have been since my first Genesis record (3 Sides Live). I own everything he's released except Soundtracks.

The track list is right on the money. Most of my fave songs are here.

Thanks for spotting that, Mark! The box set is an import, but the Amazon USA price is indeed about $15 cheaper than the British price right now:

Btw Linda, are you a Tony Banks fan or do you need to get this to find out what you're missing?

The latter. I've barely heard his solo work. This box (at this price) is a good place for me to start.

I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. The music is like Genesis and then it's not all at the same time. This set has most of my favorite tunes that he did and I really think you'd like it.

It's so damn sad that his solo work was ignored by most of the world.

Oh, that's excellent! That's easy for me to wrap my tastes around. I was under the impression that Banks' solo work was all "difficult" keyboard stuff, more classical than rock. But that song is right down the block from Genesis.

A lot of his stuff is like that to an extent. There's a few prog-keyboard stuff like The Waters Of Lethe and From The Undertow, both from his first solo album A Curious Feeling

Go back up to the top and check out the song Angel Face that Tricky Kid posted. What a moody song! That one has Fish from Marillion singing and Daryl Stuermer playing guitar. Daryl is the touring guitarist for Genesis and did most of the guitars on Phil's solo albums.

I locked in with Amazon US order. $40 for 4 discs re-mastered. No brainer.

I have the Special edition of "A Curious" Feeling" which is out of print and goes for big bucks now. Love it!

And like that one I am pre-ordering this as well. Not missing out!

Rick A.

PS Thanks Mark52063.

There were two reviews on Amazon UK and they were very encouraging. It's been released over there already.

Linda, here's a song by Banks when he did a solo outing as the band Strictly Inc (some songs are on this collection). I'm going to bet my membership here that you'll really like this song..........

Mark, your IMWAN membership is safe. :D That is very, very good. I had to look up who the singer was, of course once I knew it was Jack Hues he was immediately recognisable. (They should have brought him in for Calling All Stations.)
