This is one of those classic movies that I had NEVER seen. Our local restored movie palace has a dirt cheap summer movie series and I decided, on a whim, that I wanted to crash Eli and Sarah's movie date. Since Sarah's mom was also coming I didn't feel too bad about it. So I brought my mother, too.
What a movie. Some of it is a bit campy now, mostly because so much of the film has seeped into our culture.
The entire movie takes place in 24 hours. I don't think it is a coincidence that it starts on Easter Day, since the underlying theme is rebirth and redemption.
Then there is the added undertone of what eventually happened to the three young actors. All died too young, all somewhat or very mysteriously. It was such a pleasure to see them alive, vital, naive, wise, full of potential.
I give it 5 stars, despite all the stupid adults, including Mr. Magoo and The Chief.

An incredible movie -- I watched it when I was much closer to James Dean's age. 1955 was a great year in film. In quite of few films of 1955, you see them wrestling with various aspects of the social change that was coming.

The thing I found interesting is that the "rebellious teenager", that trouble seemed to find, had more integrity than most of the adults. The thugs were just thugs, of the type there always are. And sincerity - a big word 10 years later - was the most important thing.

Great movie. It was the first time I ever saw James Dean act. U saw what the hype was about it.
