Look, I'm all for raining fire on terrorists from thousand of miles away, but piloting a drone is considerably less exciting as a story than piloting a jet fighter.

It sounds awesome. Don't you get it? The premise will be that drone fighting has supplanted human piloting, and there's no need for old dinosaurs like Maverick.
And then there will be some kind of hack or failure that reveals the need for an old-fashioned ace. Heroic swoopage.
Then Fat Iceman will pop Maverick on the ass with a towel in the locker room just like old times except Fat Iceman is too fat to fly a plane anymore and they have to go with Maverick. Tom Skerritt better be in this too.
I would love for Goose to have a twin brother that learned to fly later and is all "Great balls of fire" with old Maverick in the cockpit also. Thanks.
Tom Cruise on 'Top Gun 2': 'If we can figure it out, it would be fun to do'
Tom Cruise has responded to ongoing rumours about a Top Gun sequel, saying: "If we can figure it out, it would be fun to do."
Cruise and Tony Scott, director of the 1986 action classic, met in August 2012 to scout locations for a sequel in Nevada, but after the director committed suicide later that month, plans for Top Gun 2 appear to have been abandoned.
However, last month (June) the CEO of the production company behind the sequel, Skydance's David Ellison, revealed that a script for Top Gun 2 is now being written with Cruise's character, Maverick, in mind. Ellison said at the time: "There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie and there is no Top Gun without Maverick, and it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick."
Asked about the mooted sequel at the world premiere of his latest film, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Cruise told Extra: "I have not thought about it, we haven't turned our eye to it, I don't know."
"It's tricky to figure out. If I can figure it out, if all of us can figure it out, it would be fun to do," the actor added.
Cruise then said of Top Gun 2: "I'd like to fly those jets again. But we've got to do all the jets practical. No CGI on the jets. I remember when I did the first one, I said, 'Look, in my contract I had to have three flights in the F-14.'... and luckily they wanted me bad enough to do it, so I was able to do that. I'm saying right now – no CGI on the jets. If we can figure all that out, and the Department of Defense will allow us to do it, that would be fun."
Then Fat Iceman will pop Maverick on the ass with a towel in the locker room just like old times except Fat Iceman is too fat to fly a plane anymore and they have to go with Maverick. Tom Skerritt better be in this too.
Obviously Tom could pull this off as he is ageless but the rest of the cast has to be recast. Love the original and it's a shame it was right before Dolby Digital 5.1 because it would have sounded freakin' awesome.
A new one might use too much CGI and ruin the look but it will sound good.

Just watched him on M*A*S*H Saturday night.
One of the best football comedies ever made.
It was fascinating to watch how the movie set up the framework and ongoing gags and tropes for the TV show. Or what the TV show appropriated, I should say.
I remarked to the bf that you won't see a movie made like that today. They would have had prettier stars, less-witty dialogue, a super-realistic battlefield scene and a pop-rock rock to play during the football game. Also, no naked Sally Kellerman.
How's Kelly McGillis these days? I would guess Emma Stone in the hottie role now?
I think that she looks great but there's no way they'd cast her as a love interest for Cruise. She just turned 58. Cameron Diaz was "old" playing against him in at 38.
