Looking forward to this.
Quote:
In 1971, Stanford's Professor Philip Zimbardo (Billy Crudup) conducts a controversial psychology experiment in which college students pretend to be either prisoners or guards, but the proceedings soon get out of hand.
Stars Dr. Manhattan, Flash, and Mad Men's Bob Benson.
The '71 experiment showed how quickly some people will abuse power and the effects on those that are under that power. If you've ever been put in a situation where untrained and poorly supervised people are put in control of others, this may look familiar.

I didn't think of that, but yeah, there's definitely an online equivalent.
I think moderator/admins generally illustrate the prison experiment concept. Across a wide variety of online forums, I've observed conduct from mods that is just ridiculous in terms of how the tiny amount of power goes to their heads.

I belonged to a comic forum and realized that a mod had been correcting the grammar and spelling in everyone's posts.
I posted a joke where the punchline relied on the misuse of a word. The post kept "self-correcting" after an hour or so. When I complained, "Barney Fife" revealed that he'd been going through and fixing grammar and spelling.

I've been perma-banned from a shaving forum. Let that sink in.
