Description
Carl Wilson took a hiatus from The Beach Boys in an attempt to try to do something slightly more aggressive than what he could do within the confines of the group. His first solo album was released in early 1981 and was crafted at the Caribou Ranch studios that were owned by James William Guercio, who also served as producer. This is the first time this compact disc will be available in the U.S. It's only other appearance on CD was a Japanese edition that was available for a very short time.

The centerpiece of the album is the absolutely divine "Heaven", which Carl would often sing in the later stages of his touring days with the Beach Boys. Carl never rocked harder than he does on "The Right Lane" and the album closer is Carl's remembrance of simpler times, the beautiful & haunting, "Seems So Long Ago".

The in-depth essay is by Billy Hinsche (Dino, Desi & Billy, Beach Boys touring band) who was a member of Carl's band in support of this release. Billy's first hand accounts of life on the road with the group draws us right into the tour experience. This release is mastered from the original master tapes by Vic Anesini and has never sounded better.

Tracklist
1. Hold Me
2. Bright Lights
3. What You Gonna Do About Me
4. The Right Lane
5. Hurry Love
6. Heaven
7. The Grammy
8. Seems So Long Ago

Excellent to have Vic Anesini at the re-mastering board for this!

This was recently posted by Billy Hinsche on Facebook:

Quote:
Almost done writing the new liner notes for Carl Wilson's soon-to-be-released first solo album, CARL WILSON, on CD as a reissue on Iconoclassic / Sony - scheduled for a late August release with downloads available in 2016 ...

Bump: Added the pre-order link to the first post. (Strangely, Iconoclassic has not yet updated to the global Friday release date -- this has been solicited as a Tuesday release.)

Bump again to add the description and tracklist.

Dick Clark Productions uploaded the between-song interview with Carl and his band from their 1981 American Bandstand appearance to promote this album:
