Flame made this point again in the X-Men thread and I think it's an interesting one. We are definitely experiencing a time that most comic fans dreamed of - a time when the comics are being brought gloriously into life. But...I am a bit bored with the whole thing now. I can't get excited about up coming projects despite my love of the two Avengers movies, Iron Man, Cap 2 etc etc. I feel like I could go a long time before ever needing to see another one - and will be relieved, a bit, when the super-hero movie craze is over. It's been overkill, in the past couple of years, it seems to me.

How say you?

To me, that's like saying there's too many horror movies. Of course not.

Nah, it's still only three or four a year. That's not too many.

The novelty has definitely worn off, but there was only so long after they did Avengers that it would happen. Things can only feel new and exciting for so long.

But when you see something like Winter Soldier or Iron Man 3, you forget about the "overload" of superhero movies and just enjoy them on a simpler level -- as plain old good movies. A good movie is a good movie, no matter the genre.

Two things that a man should never say:

"There's too many superhero movies."

and

"My wife's boobs are too big."

By the bristling beard of Odin, long may you post such wisdom.

There's too many. And we haven't even got into the DC "Universe" yet. It's a mixed bag as I still enjoy the fact they are making movies of these things, but I feel like they're salting the Earth right now with way too many pictures for the sake of pictures and the substance level is low. When the backlash finally comes, it's going to be big and I wouldn't be surprised if superheroes are relegated to the back pages of history for awhile.

Just to clarify, I was agreeing with Evans, not the intervening post by Balogney-Goo-Goo.

Didn't see Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men Days of Future Past, and probably won't see Ant-Man and FF at the movies. Went to see GOTG way late after hearing it was the Citizen Kane of movies.

It's not that I don't enjoy them, but a bit of weariness is settling in that causes me not to have a sense of urgency about seeing them at the movies.

I did see Age of Ultron on opening weekend, but didn't enjoy it as much as I was hoping I would. Things are bogging down for me with these movies.

First Class and Days of Future Past reignited my belief in the genre.

First Class is tied, for me, with Winter Soldier: these are the two best superhero movies I've ever seen.

I'm pretty sure Days of Future Past will end up being another favourite, based on the little bits I've seen (I've deliberately avoided finding out too much).

This. Part of the problem might be that most comic nerds (myself included) have a completist mentality when it comes to seeing them, along with nostalgia vs. disappointment coming into play.

Let's put it this way... First Class' only fault (for me) was in the casting of Emma Frost. In DOFP, there's no miscasting to drag any of it down. So if they cast well for Apocalypse, I should be good to go.

I thought Jan Jones' wooden acting came across as snobby, jaded disinterest and worked for me in that role.

Yup. I'm a comic geek, and even I don't watch 'em all.

There are too many bad ones, but that's not the fault of the genre itself.

There should be several YouTube channels with nothing but new live-action superhero series. The characters are much better suited for serial fiction.
