Allow me to indulge one of my other hobbies for a moment: the planets Venus and Jupiter are in conjunction this week. Go out on a clear night after sunset and look up toward the north-west, you'll see two very bright star-like objects. They don't appear this close very often--it'll be worth your while!

I was walking through Queens NY on my way to a wake last week when I noticed those two very bright objects in the western sky.
It is neat to see Venus and Jupiter.

Almost as good as Venus and Mars. :D

Venus and the crescent moon make a spectacular pair in the sky tonight.

Noticed that last night (it was very clear out). Pointed it out to my wife because we had just watched Melancholia which is about a rogue planet that hits Earth (its first noticed as a red light in the sky).

Venus is particularly bright this week. Is this the same planet that almost caused a plane crash last week?

The planets have come full circle since I started this thread. Venus and Jupiter are in conjunction again in the western sky after sundown. Even with the light pollution here in suburbia, Venus is so bright, it looks like a plane coming in for landing. The two planets will draw even closer through the rest of the month, and team up with a crescent moon next weekend.

Thanks for the explanation, Jimbo. I just noticed the planets shining brightly tonight as I was out walking a half an hour ago and wondered what was happening.

Thanks Jimbo, I go to the backyard at times with my lab "Luke" during our Saturday night rock outs. Gazing at the stars is what I like to do during our nature breaks.

I tried starting "Anatomy Today - Keep watching the thighs!" parody threads, but the mods keep setting them on fire.

Tonight is the ultimate culmination of the Venus-Jupiter conjunction. The two planets will practically merge into one apparent body. If you have clear skies, take a look in the western sky, it'll be worth your while. Plus, they're easily visible at dusk, even before the sun sets completely.

I was thinking of renting a ski chalet there next winter.

Does Pluto have a big, icy heart, or is that a bog ol' white baboon butt it's sportin' there?

I'm still wondering when the Moon will be in the seventh house and whether or not Jupiter will align with Mars.

Maybe the best part is the bulk of the pictures won't be available for some time. They said it will be months before all the data is returned.

Is it true that if you piled your CDs end to end, you could reach Pluto?

It looks like a heart to me. Pluto still loves us, even after the demotion.

Was always my favorite as it's the last planet, after that, infinity!

Come on Hollywood, if your not gonna do a Mission To Uranus, give us a Mission To Pluto at at least! :)
