I got some of the 5th Dimension two-fers that Collector's Choice put out recently and I was very pleased with those. I'm kind of curious as to why they didn't do the same thing here and put out two-fers. Is there really that much call for mono and stereo versions of Rascals material?

Yes!. The mono versions are much better. I can't wait for these.

I'm getting all six, even though I own the first three on CD already. The last two I've never even seen before.

The Rascals were a little before my time, I pretty much only know the hits, so I'll admit to not knowing that much about them. If this is the kind of thing that Rascals fans are really into, then it's nice to see someone putting out something like this. I wish more labels used a little imagination when releasing reissues.

i like the rascals, and will probably get these sooner or later, but i must say i believe they were much more a singles band than a album band.

it has been a long time since i've heard any of their individual albums, and i had all of them on vinyl at one time, and i don't remember them being all that great as albums go.

I forgot to mention that there were two more Rascals albums on Columbia not part of the new batch: "Peaceful World" and "Island of Real". The Rascals went from pop-soul to ethereal rock in the span of eight albums, a very interesting and rewarding listening experience.

And "Peaceful World" and "Island of Real" are both available from Sundazed. I especially like "Once Upon a Dream". I have the Rhino Handmade set, which would make these somewhat unnecessary, but I may end up picking them up anyway if I ever come across them used.

That Rascals Rhino Handmade set sold out fairly quickly. Many favorable reviews...
If I'm not mistaken, I believe that these new reissued remasters are from that Rhino set.
It's great to have these available again...

From where I sit (next month 54 yes old) this band was great. At least the first lp was right up there with anything from the Stones or the Kinks or the Dave Clark Five...behind only the Beatles.

After that Jimi Hendrix, Cream and the Mothers came along and I lost all interest. I will pick up the first release though. IMHO it is one of the best releases of al time.

Go YANKEES !!!!

And that was your 61st post! How's that for synchronicity? :D

Collectors Choice has a history of reissuing titles licensed to Rhino Handmade, once their run is sold out, usually dropping any bonus tracks. The Rhino Rascals box had two full CDs of single mixes and other rarities. Interestingly, it did not include mono mixes of the earlier albums, as on these CC reissues. I'm not sure mono is enough to get me to buy these again, though.

After the DC5 quieted down, the Rascals were probably number 2(behind The Beatles) in my house. My sister, older by 2 years, was a huge fan, and I came to the Rascals through her.
Unlike Robert, I never cared much for the first album. I loved the next 4. She had Collections in mono, and the next 3 in stereo, so I'm very interested in hearing the other mixes.
The Rhino set was great, but is a pain in the ass to open and close, for some reason. I know that's small potatoes, but I'd probably get these anyway. If you're only familiar with the Rascals' singles, I would suggest trying these. They offered so much more beyond the "blue-eyed soul" label they were tagged with.
