Seminal punk band X has a lot to celebrate. The group’s fall tour will mark the 31st anniversary of one of its classic albums and the 26th anniversary of the music documentary “X: The Unheard Music.”
Released in 1980, Los Angeles was the debut album for X. Along with the title track, other songs on the album included “Your Phone’s Off The Hook, But You’re Not,” “Nausea,” “Sugarlight,” “Sex And Dying In High Society” and “The Unheard Music” as well as The Doors tune “Soul Kitchen.” Often cited as a milestone in Los Angeles punk music, Los Angeles was reissued in 2001 with several bonus tracks added.
As X travels through America playing Los Angeles in its entirety, the band’s concerts will also feature showings of the 1986 documentary “X: The Unheard Music” before the group takes the stage. Because the rock-doc is about, well, X, and is reflective of the Los Angeles punk scene in the early 1980s, the band is urging audiences to “interact” with the movie. In other words, don’t be afraid to get good and loud.
The “Los Angeles” tour begins in Philadelphia Sept. 24 at Festival Pier. Other stops include Asbury Park, N.J., at the Stone Pony Sept. 25; Annapolis, Md., at Rams Head On Stage Sept. 26; New York City’s Irving Plaza Sept. 30-Oct. 1; Cleveland’s Beachland Ballroom & Tavern Oct. 4; Chicago’s Bottom Lounge Oct. 5; and Denver’s Summit Music Hall Oct. 8.
X is currently on a swing through California on what the band likes to call its “Boardwalk Beach Party” tour, playing San Francisco June 15, Napa June 16, Santa Cruz June 17 and Ventura June 18. Check out XtheBand.com for more information.
I hope it's true. She had a bad attack of something that forced her to cancel half of a solo tour a couple of months ago.....she had thought it was MS symptoms.
They're here almost every year and I usually see them. Didn't the last time, but this (if not overpriced) is probably a must for me. I love this band! I just wish we'd get new music some day. Maybe it's for the better.

Pearl Jam have invited punk legends X to join them this November for their South American tour which will hit Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Costa Rica and Mexico City.
As was previously announced, just prior to the South American tour, X will take to the road in September for a series of dates across the U.S. on a special Los Angeles Tour. Starting off in Philadelphia at Riot Fest East on September 24th, the band will wind their way to New Orleans for VooDoo Fest on October 29th before heading to South America. On their return, the band will begin performances again out West before finishing off with their annual December Holiday Shows, dates TBA shortly.
This year X celebrates the 31st Anniversary of the legendary album, Los Angeles, one that not only defined their career, but an entire musical genre as well. The band will also be celebrating the 26th Anniversary of the rock-umentary, X: The Unheard Music. The film, recently included in the prestigious Sundance Film Institute Independent film archives, will run, at select shows, in its entirety on screen before the band hits the stage to perform, track by track, the Los Angeles album. The band encourages the audience to interact with the movie as it plays, it's meant to be heard loud!

Wow, I hope they film and record this for release.
I would someday like to see legitimate releases of some of John Doe's solo acoustic shows, particularly ones from McCabe's Guitar Shop (In Santa Monica CA) from the mid-to-late 80's. Great performances of his songs, the Knitters, some X material thrown in, and even the kitchen sink at times.
NoPhoneNoPoolNoPets, A goodfriend of mine saw a solo John Doe show in Orlando, Fl that you maybe talking about. Too this day he still raves about it. Hopefully John Doe recorded these and can get then out. Sell thru a web site or whatever. Would great to have them.
Guitarist Billy Zoom, a founding member of long-running L.A. punk band X, has been diagnosed with bladder cancer and will bow out of the group’s current tour to undergo treatment after a run of shows this weekend in Orange County.
Zoom overcame prostate cancer in 2010 with a radical prostatectomy, and will begin chemotherapy next week, according to a statement released by the band.
“In the music community, we all take turns helping each other,” his bandmates said in a statement. “Punk rock and benefits: you name the cause, and the bands and fans will be there. Now it's our turn to help Billy Zoom, the wittiest, smartest, nicest, best guitar player & friend we know. We would do anything to help him get better, help take care of his family, and lessen his woes.”
Consequently, a Support Billy Zoom’s Kick Cancer Fight at the GoFundMe website has raised more than $15,000 toward a goal of $50,000 as of midday Thursday.
“Please keep Billy in your prayers and send some positive energy his way!” X’s statement continued. “Donating a few bucks will take away some of his financial stress and worry. And it's the punk rock thing to do.”
Zoom vowed to see the band through a stretch of shows at the Observatory in Santa Ana that is scheduled to begin Thursday night and continue through Sunday. The band said it will announce a replacement for Zoom for the remaining shows of its summer tour.
As the quartet did last year at the Roxy, X is playing one of its first four studio albums in its entirety at each of the Observatory shows: “Los Angeles” on Thursday night, “Wild Gift” on Friday, “Under the Big Black Sun” on Saturday and “More Fun in the New World” on Sunday.
The bill captures a rich period of L.A. music with the addition of the Blasters each night, as well as former Minutemen bassist Mike Watt.
“The X folks asked me to do a half an hour before the Blasters, so I'm bringing my Secondmen for all four gigs,” Watt told The Times. “I'll do some old Minutemen [material] since they're doing their old stuff also.

X Take a Trip to Cannery Row in ‘Delta 88 Nightmare’ Video Exene Cervenka’s son, Henry Mortensen, stars in, directed new clip
X’s new video for “Delta 88 Nightmare” doesn’t feature the band itself, but the next generation: Exene Cervenka’s son Henry Mortensen (who also directed the video) and niece Carolyn Allen.
In the clip, the pair trek to Cannery Row, the famous waterfront area in Monterey, California, a fitting adventure as the video delves into the X’s rough-and-tumble memories of the late Seventies and their youth.
Mortensen and Allen’s journey is interspersed with vintage black and white footage of the area, echoing an experience Cervenka and John Doe shared in the Seventies. “It didn’t seem like it, but we were kids in 1977, living in Venice, California, which was a poor, rundown, beatnik/hippie stronghold,” they told Rolling Stone in a joint statement. “We read Steinbeck’s Cannery Row and wondered if there might be remnants of those romantic hobos and bohemians up in Monterey.
“We planned a spur of the moment road trip with our two best friends,” they continued. “After a death-defying, winding ride along the jagged California coast through Big Sur, we arrived in Monterey. But the canneries were mostly abandoned and one had become a shopping mall with fancy eateries. It was horrifying and the first time we had seen a grand industrial building turned into a playground for rich people.”
Soon, however, the X bandmates realized that they were a lot like the “hobos and bohemians” in Steinbeck’s novel. “We were dressed like bikers, beach bums and weirdos,” they said. “We loved our roles as rebels and misfits. I wished we had driven a Delta 88, but our rusted-out, bright yellow International Travelall made all the elites recoil in horror.”
“Delta 88 Nightmare” first appeared as a bonus track on a 2001 of reissue Los Angeles, but will now be featured on a seven-inch with a newly recorded version of their 1987 track “Cyrano de Berger’s Back.” The seven-inch will be released on November 29th.
Earlier this year, X returned to the studio and churned out five new or revamped songs over the course of two days with producer Rob Schnapf, including the refreshed songs on the seven-inch.
