Jason Statham on Starring in Marvel Films: "Anybody Can Do It" — Even "My Grandma"
Don't expect to see Jason Statham tussling on screen with the Avengers anytime soon.
The Spy star told Italian website I 400 Calci that starring in a superhero film, specifically one from the Marvel universe, doesn't interest him, in part because he doesn't appreciate the reliance on green screen and visual effects.
"I could take my grandma and put her in a cape, and they'll put her on a green screen, and they'll have stunt doubles come in and do all the action," Statham replied. "Anybody can do it."
The Furious 7 actor said that these types of projects don't feel "authentic" to him. "I'm inspired by old, real-star [actors] — guys that can really do their thing."
This follows Statham's comments to the Guardian recently about the James Bond franchise, saying he would take the series in a "very, very different direction" if he played the iconic spy character.
Statham's remarks about Marvel can be seen in the video below.

If his grandma keeps complaining about how cold it is and constantly asks for the time, he should check to see if he's distantly related to Eddie Murphy.

Maybe, but maybe he's just from the old school of action choreography that likes to see the stars do most of the action themselves, a la Jackie Chan.
He's entitled to his opinion and not liking Marvel movies doesn't make him a bad guy. I kinda feel these guys can't win -- he probably didn't set out to criticize Marvel but was asked about them in an interview and gave his honest opinion. The alternative would be living in a world where people give nothing but the most boring, vanilla non-offensive answers for everything -- and at that point, why bother read the interview?
I like Stan Lee, but I don't really bother with his interviews because you know he's almost always got nothing but kind words for everyone and everything -- which is nice, but hardly interesting. I'd love to know his actual opinions on modern comics and the changes they make to his characters, but I know we'll never hear them.

I know, how can anyone in one of those super-awful Fast 'n Furious movies criticize anyone? It's like Justin Beiber or Taylor Swift giving a musician an album critique. I know you sell a lot of records and everything, but no thanks.

He didn't say that he didn't like Marvel movies. He just said that he prefers not to work the way that they are made. So he prefers to do his own stunts and be on location whenever possible for him to be satisfied in his craft. Good for him.

He's my favorite modern action hero. I just found it a little funny to be coming off Furious 7, which had a lot of CGI in it, to slag on Marvel for having CGI. Also Crank, Crank 2, and so on. Unless he actually flung himself out of a helicopter a half mile above the city, of course (he may have).
