Description
FFS = Franz Ferdinand and Sparks Collaborations don’t work, or that’s what FFS would have us believe on their debut album. When the seminal Los Angeles duo Sparks and Glasgow-based quartet Franz Ferdinand decided to record together, it was a flawed and potentially disastrous idea, right? Wrong, as ‘FFS’ is one of the strongest albums of either bands’ career. Produced by Grammy-award winning John Congleton (St Vincent, David Byrne) at London’s RAK Studios, the album ‘FFS’ took 15 days to complete. 'Kimono My House'-era Sparks fans will recognize how ‘FFS’ highlights their classic ‘pop rock’ DNA, and Franz Ferdinand fans won’t be dissapointed to hear the band at their peak of their powers as they bring their exhilaratingly unique and witty modern rock sound to the collaboration. Very much a new project, FFS doesn’t truly sound like either band, but a striking and fascinating mutation. So in the right hands, collaborations DO work, and beautifully. The strength of the two bands is bigger than the sum of the parts.

Looks like we will be getting a collaborative album with Sparks and Franz Ferdinand later this year

Russell Mael earlier announced that the two bands had collaborated on writing and recording an album, and that the new unit — whose name has not been revealed — would tour in Europe starting in June, with plans for some U.S. dates to follow.

“This all started coming together when both our bands played Coachella two years ago,” Kapranos told Pop & Hiss backstage after the show.

“We were both in San Francisco at the same time, and we started talking, you know, ‘We should record a song together sometime,’ ” he said. “A lot of times people say that, and nothing ever happens, but they followed up, and we started exchanging ideas, and pretty quickly we had six songs worked up and realized, ‘This is going to be an album.’”

Bump: Lawrence had brought all the release details to the thread; I've moved that info up to the first post and updated the title.

According to Sparks Maeling List-

As announced earlier this year Sparks have teamed up with Franz Ferdinand to form FFS and the self-titled album will be released this June. FFS will be available as a standard 12 track CD, 16 track deluxe CD, 16 track 2LP vinyl , 16 track 2LP coloured vinyl (independent stores only) and download. It is available to pre-order now:

But as that seems to be the only Amazon listing, I'm not sure about the details on 12 track CD.

P.S. Collaborations Don't Work :p

The CD with 12 tracks is listed in the UK -- it simply has less tracks, nothing unique -- but the full edition with 16 tracks is the only CD listed as a domestic release so far:

Thanks Neal for the heads up. I am sure "The Dean & I" will be looking for a repeat of this.

And Thanks Linda for linking the above video. :ohyes:

The new album is streaming on NPR for those (unlike me) who are undecided about this collaboration.

Finally got around to listening to this throughout the day. Who says "Collaborations Don't Work"? Ha, sure works here. One of the best albums of the year.
