I just watched Father Goose. A wonderful movie.

But The Philadelphia Story is pretty good.

And so is North By Northwest.

My personal favorite is Bringing Up Baby, but I don't know that I would classify it as his "best" movie...

 I picked Notorious when I meant to pick North by Northwest. I've never actually even seen the former :?

I think I process his early career separately from his great color movies. I think North by Northwest would be my pick for best overall, and Charade is a personal favorite from that same era. But for early in his career, I Was a Male War Bride is a personal favorite.

This was a tough choice as I love Hitchcock. It's like making me choose a favorite from children.

This is also how I look at his career, splitting into two distinct eras. He is bar none my favorite all time actor, and I have all his movies. He could do comedy as well as suspense/action and had a screen presence like no other. Really almost impossible for me to pick one but if pressed I go with Hitch and NXNW.

Do you like Male War Bride at all in particular? That movie made me laugh without any feeling that it was dated or corny.

Wow, and for an actor I really like, I haven't seen most of these.

I've seen some of them only once, most of them probably not at all, but for some reason, I've probably seen all of the following ones multiple times, and would watch them again if I noticed they were on.

Father Goose
Operation Petticoat
North by Northwest
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House
The Bishop's Wife
Arsenic and Old Lace
Destination Tokyo
The Philadelphia Story
His Girl Friday
Gunga Din
Bringing Up Baby
Topper

So, which of the others does anybody consider a MUST see Cary Grant film?

The thing that's so amazing about North by Northwest is that comes across as a very well-done satire of a James Bond movie, before James Bond movies existed.

Yes, although I think it's a bit schizophrenic. The first half is comedy farce and the second tones all that WAY down. Still a fun movie though.

So, which of the others does anybody consider a MUST see Cary Grant film?

Removing the ones you've seen and the ones that I don't consider MUST see leaves me with the list above edited down for you. If I had to further narrow that down into absolute essentials, I would not narrow it down very much. But here goes:
Charade - Peter Joshua - 1963
That Touch of Mink - Philip Shayne -1962
Indiscreet - Philip Adams - 1958
To Catch a Thief - John Robie - 1955
Monkey Business - Dr. Barnaby Fulton - 1952
I Was a Male War Bride - Capt. Henri Rochard - 1949
The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer - Dick - 1947
Penny Serenade - Roger Adams - 1941
My Favorite Wife - Nick - 1940
Holiday - Johnny Case - 1938
The Awful Truth - Jerry Warriner - 1937

If you must see only 3 of those, then it's Charade, To Catch a Thief, and Holiday.

Ohhhhhhhh. I like free.

Youtube has listed quite a few complete Cary Grant Movies.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVp7zix ... _m8b4nxcBC

I haven't looked further, but there may be more.

I think most of his early 30s films are free on YouTube. The later ones might be on there, but not legally.

The three you recommended aren't there - not for free, anyway.

These are the ones - but if the first two are any indication, they seem to have speed up the sound a touch. Weird - but you can watch the stories.

That Touch Of Mink
The Grass Is Greener
Operation Petitcoat
Indiscreet
Kiss Them For Me
Monkey Business
People Will Talk
Crisis
I was a male war bride (listed as "Allez Coucher Ailleurs")
Notorious
Once Upon A Honeymoon
Penny Serenade
Topper
The Amazing Adventure
Wings in the Dark
Enter Madame!
Ladies Should Listen
The Devil and the Deep (parts 1-6)
Merrily we go to Hell
Sinners in the Sun
This is the Night (parts 1-6)

I thought Holiday might be, but it's only available if you pay $2.99 to watch it (but it is on YouTube, just not free). Charade is on Hulu. To Catch a Thief is a pretty popular Hitchcock movie so it should be easy to find to rent. That too is probably able to be rented from Google.
