John Wetton has confirmed he’s recovering from the removal of a tumour following an operation earlier this month.

The Asia singer has thanked doctors who led the successful surgery, and also thanked fans for their support.

An official statement reads: “On May 16, John underwent surgery for the successful removal of a 1kg malignant mass. John wishes to extend his thanks to Mr Chan and his team. John is also beyond grateful for the wonderful wishes and prayers received.”

I wish him the best. I will always think of Wetton as a member of King Crimson, rather than Asia.

He was with KC for 2 years and Asia for over 30 years so far!

And he was with Mogul Thrash, Family, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep, UK and Wishbone Ash.

One of my Top 5 Rock vocalists ever-such a rich voice.

Outstanding bass player too.

John and I have seen Asia several times since they started touring again with the original line-up. I jokingly note that Wetton looks like such a regular guy these days, maybe a dockworker. Imagine him in a club after a show: "No, baby, I'm a rock star! Really!"



Kidding aside, hoping he has a speedy and complete recovery, and gets back to the music before long.

I now the majority of his career was with Asia, but the best work was with Crimson imo, & by a mile.

I wish John a speedy recovery. Having countless of CD's both solo and group efforts I feel I have been listening to him my whole life. Actually a true statement.

John Wetton has urged everyone to take preventative action against cancer as he gears up to begin chemotherapy treatment.

The Asia frontman will undergo his first session tomorrow, after he confirmed in May that he’d been diagnosed with cancer and had surgery to remove a tumour.

Wetton, 66, says in a tweet: “I start chemo tomorrow. I urge everyone to be checked for cancer regularly, because cancer growth is rapid – and before you know it, agonising.”
