This will be likely be an upgrade from the recording I've had for years, but regardless, I cannot recommend this performance highly enough for fans of Big Star and Alex Chilton. It's like a parallel universe version of what Alex's solo career might have become, taken from a time when he had Chris Stamey (of the nascent dB's) in his group, and they were trying to take the Big Star sound forward into the New Wave era rather than the shambolic R&B that Alex ended up focusing on later. It includes a few Big Star numbers, also "She Might Look My Way" (which was Alex's glorious attempt to follow "September Gurls") and early "Big Star-esque" versions of songs later to appear on LX solo albums ... plus some choice covers ... it's just great, historic, and somewhat sad since there was so much promise here that was never realised.

I picked this up at the Norton booth at the WFMU record fair 2 weeks ago, but I haven't had time to listen to it yet.....

Bump: We have the cover art and tracklist in the first post now. Norton says this is from the master tapes with pristine sound, which is incredible considering I've never heard anything but audience tapes! Didn't even know that a soundboard recording had been done that night. This should be an amazing release.
