I'm really enjoying this show. I only checked it out because I had read online that Patton Oswalt thought the actress should win an Emmy.
I'm curious as to what British people think of the accents. I was surprised to find out that the 2 Brit characters were actually Canadian.

not a great trailer, but its the only one i could find

I've heard it's great, and I've been trying to track down a way to watch it. I was hoping for a re-broadcast.

Its a great show. I'm sure you will love it once you check it out Jay.

I agree the actress should get an Emmy. She plays five different roles so convincinly its easy to think they really are different people. I can't wait for season two to start!

By the way, they started re-airing a week ago, we're now up through episode 2. It airs on Saturday nights at 10.

Another reason I love this show is because it brought me to this song: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Gold Lion. Its been used for season two's premiere trailer.

Watching on Amazon Prime. Pretty awesome stuff. And intense enough that I am not binge watching. One episode a week.

I like how it plays with expectations. After the first or second episode it looked like it would be a cop show... but she sucked so hard at the job she spent most of her time trying to get out of it.

I tried this when it first aired, and I lost interest...I think I may need to do some marathon viewing of episodes.

Just finished watching the second season last night. This is a plot driven show, and the best elements are the twists and turns of the unravelling mystery. That and Tatiana Maslany's multiple distinctive character roles makes for a bravura central performance. In the finale to season two, she plays four characters on screen at the same time interacting with each other and two other characters! A lot of people on here would really enjoy it I think.

To answer the question in the first post (even though I'm not British), the English accents by the Canadian actors are perfect, and Mrs S's Irish accent is perfect too...because Maria Doyle Kennedy is Irish, which is handy.

I binge watched the first two seasons in less than a week recently. Tatiana Maslany is wonderful and the show premise very interesting. It's really astonishing what she accomplishes as an actress on the series. I'm waiting until I have the entire third series available before I watch any of it, because I know it will drive me nuts having to wait between episodes.

Dredging up year old post to reply. :) She wasn't really the cop (pretty much a criminal), so of course she sucked at it!

Haven't watched any of season three yet (I like Jeff's idea, but I don't know if I can wait that long!), but the first two seasons were excellent. A couple places where they seemed to lose the thread a bit, but not too many.

How Tatiana Maslany has evaded the major awards astounds me.

This hasn't stopped other shows. Continuum is a pretty big abuser of this. A good show, but the first couple of seasons were a bit too focused on it being a cop drama where she's fighting the same bad guys week after week.

And it's not like the show didn't point out how she didn't make sense, they'd just let her get away with flimsy excuse after flimsy excuse.

In reading the AV Club reviews of this season, it seems I'm not alone in thinking this season is lacking something... although it's hard to put my finger on what exactly.

Nearest I can think of is they effectively concluded virtually all the on-going sub-plots of the first two seasons. Their attempt to make a big deal out of the Brothers ends up falling flat as a male actor really can't disguise himself as Tatiana Maslany does. My brain kind of refuses to process most of her roles as being played by her, because her hair, body language, and facial expressions are so different, although the illusion breaks down with the lesser-used ones. And, oh god, stop trying to make me give a shit about the cop's boyfriend. He sucked the first episode, he continues to suck no matter how much they tie him to every story arc in the show. This season I didn't realize who he was until several minutes after he appeared,.. I knew he had to be a recurring character because they were treating him like he was really important, but he made so little impact on me that I had almost completely forgotten he had ever appeared in the show. For the love of god, put him out of my misery.

It's a Canadian series set in Canada, so I believe most of the "Brit" characters are also Canadian.

(That being said, I haven't watched it recently so I don't know the background of most of the people in Orphan Black.)

You are also completely wrong, which often happens when one guesses without having any idea what they are talking about. :) I mean, yes, it's made in Canada, but the internals of the show have nothing to do with that, nor do the accents.

Paul was great, you monster.

The Castor clones, not so much. Still, the quality drop this season hasn't been much, IMO, the show is very aware of what it does well and it keeps doing it.

Orphan Black takes place in the Canadian part of the United States... or is that the other way around?

I think the mistake was to focus a bit too much on the Big Story at the expense of the smaller ones in the first half of the season. I think it would have been better to focus on Allison's story arc and let the Sarah/Helena stuff bubble in the background so the Castor stuff had a bigger impact when it finally broke big... but they were committed to going big when they had Helena kidnapped last season, so they had to move forward with a not terribly well-defined villain at the jump. The most recent episode where Helena confront Mrs. S and Cosima has to do the impersonation thing for the first time was a return to form.
