THE CIRCLE Featuring SAMMY HAGAR, MICHAEL ANTHONY, JASON BONHAM To Release 'At Your Service' Live Album
March 15, 2015
THE CIRCLE, the combo consisting of legendary rocker Sammy Hagar alongside Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham and Vic Johnson will release a concert album, "At Your Service", on May 19 in both digital and physical packages.
Recorded live on tour in 2014, this release documents the blistering performance of a band on fire performing hits from Sammy's four decades of rock (MONTROSE, solo, VAN HALEN, THE WABORITAS, CHICKENFOOT) as well as classic tracks from the LED ZEPPELIN
Although the final track listing for "At Your Service" has not yet been announced, it is expected to include such songs as "There's Only One Way to Rock", "Rock Candy", "Whola Lotta Love", "Why Can't This Be Love?" and "Sexy Little Thing".
starting next week, "At Your Service" will include an instant download of THE CIRCLE's version of VAN HALEN's "Poundcake".
Speaking to Ultimate Classic Rock, Hagar stated about THE CIRCLE: "I think THE CIRCLE is the band that I want to play with right now. It's the band that I choose to play with over any band. Even CHICKENFOOT is hard, because we only play CHICKENFOOT. So I miss playing 'When It's Love' and 'Right Now' and 'I Can't Drive 55' and 'One Way To Rock' and 'Heavy Metal' and 'Rock Candy'. I miss doing that, as much as I love CHICKENFOOT."
He continued: "THE CIRCLE is so satisfying that I don't even see a reason to make a record. We have so many great hits that we can choose from our catalog, all of those VAN HALEN hits, all of the Sammy solo, all of those MONTROSE hits, CHICKENFOOT hits, LED ZEPPELIN songs — we have that catalog to choose from for our shows, so to make a record would just be kind of a waste of time. I wouldn't say never, but first I'd like to put together the greatest set list that ever existed in rock 'n' roll, and I think we're pretty close to it right now with the one that we have, but it can even get better. There's a frikkin' goldmine to choose from of songs that I've written and sang in my life."
Hagar's first-ever acoustic album titled "Lite Roast", was released on October 14, 2014 via Mailboat Records. Joining Sammy on the CD was Vic Johnson, longtime guitarist of WABORITAS, Hagar's backup band, on guitar and vocals.

Last year, Sammy Hagar hit the road with a new backing band called the Circle, which features original Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham and guitarist Vic Johnson. "We call ourselves the Circle because this band has kinda taken me full circle in my career," he told Rolling Stone. "I can play from every era, from Montrose to Van Halen to solo, Chickenfoot and some Led Zeppelin."
On May 19th, the group is releasing the live album At Your Service, featuring Van Halen hits like "Right Now" and "Dreams," solo cuts such as "I Can't Drive 55," Zeppelin classics like "Whole Lotta Love" and "Rock and Roll" and the Montrose oldie "Rock Candy." "We're a brand new band," said Hagar. "And our first record will be a greatest hits record. Top that!" Above, watch their video for "When It's Love," which originally appeared on Van Halen's 1988 LP OU812.
You can catch Sammy Hagar and the Circle on the road beginning April 11th in Las Vegas. The current incarnation of Van Halen are playing 39 amphitheaters this summer without a lot of time off, but Hagar prefers a more leisurely pace when he goes out. "I credit myself with having somewhat of a preserved voice," he said in the earlier interview. "I can still sing all these songs, but if I tried to 100 shows a year that would probably be my last one. I'd rather stretch it out and do 20 shows a year and do that for another five or six years.
Hagar's focus on the Circle means that Chickenfoot, his supergroup with Anthony, Chad Smith and Joe Satriani, has been put on the back burner. "I love making music, but doing it on Chickenfoot's level means spending a half-million on a record," he says. "We write and record for six months. It's a lot of work, and then to not sell many records. It's disappointing. I don't like being disappointed. I like winning."

Actually, you should get the new VH. All you have to do is get past Roth's vocals and you'd be fine.
Seriously, his vocals suck on some songs and on others it's not bad at all. Musically, the band is tight as hell for a supposedly undoctored recording. Ed's prowess is at a 10. Mikey is definitely missed though.
And yes, I'll be getting this new live Sammy. I hear some songs are tuned down though because of his withering vocals. Oh well. I'm certain that this recording will top VH's.

Tuning down is Sammy admitting that his vocals may not be what they once were. The guy is seven years older than Roth and destroys him in the vocal dept.

Yep - I'll be in on this.
And the new VH is hit and miss - sometimes the Roth vocals are decent, sometimes they're brutal. Sometimes the backing vocals leave a good bit to be desired.

Anybody else get this? I did and it blows me away. The songs aren't tuned down that bad and the backup vocals (Mikey and Vic) make up for where Sammy can't do it. This lineup is the shit, man. I like this wayyyyyyyyyy better than Chickenfoot.

Mark, as I precede from one track to the next I find I continue to 1/2 notch it up in volume. This concert freak'in screams! This is band is so tight. Unbelievable!
I had high expectations but this is blowing away them. Easily the Best live album of the year!

Obviously, Sammy (and Mike) aren't doing this for money... they're doing it for love of music. Sure, VH made a killin' on their "reunion" tour, but it wasn't the same as 1984 (or earlier). Sammy adds things and keeps it fresh.... and is having a blast at the same time.
